Hello Everybody!

Hello everyone!

I am Sarge, your new community coordinator and board tyrant. I'm taking over for Ash as of today. I'll be taking those rules fairly literally - consider yourselves forewarned.

Y'all will no doubt want to know far more about me than I can tell you, so I'll throw you a few crumbs. I decided I wanted to work for a video game company when I was a little kid - the storyboard for my first game is probably still hiding in my parents' basement. I proceeded to play every Nintendo and PC game I could get my hands on, until I picked up Ultima Online - that consumed several years of my life. Recently I've been playing City of Heroes, Guild Wars, the Sims 2, and of course L2.

My community background is actually in the music business - I've been the online community manager as well as the head roadie for a local musician for the past several years. I'm looking forward to working in an industry where I don't have to physically beat the rabid fans off with a stick. Not as often, anyway.

I won't be able to post too much today - lots of orientation to do. I should be hanging out over the weekend, and in full swing by Monday.

As for my gender, I think I'll let y'all stew over that for a while longer.

OK, feeling much better after 14 hours sleep... Let's see if I can answer some of your questions. First, the nice, organized list from Choch:

1. Any experience playing Lineage 2 prior to applying for this position, if so, what level is your highest character?

My experience with L2 is limited but growing - as a matter of fact, I'll probably be playing most of the day today. I can't talk about who I play or where - y'all know that. I will say, though, that I'm an alt-fiend so it'll take a while before I get to my second class change with anyone.

2. What are the key areas you plan on focusing your attention to?

The forums are actually near the top of my list, as is coordinating with our affiliate sites. I'll also be working with the event team, just as Ash did.

3. Favorite video game of all time.

Oh, I don't know if I can answer this. Best puzzle game is Tetris - not only do I have it on my cell phone, but I still play the 8 bit NES version from time to time. Fallout 2 is probably my favorite RPG, though I could make a strong argument for Ultima VII - Serpent Isle. Best MMO - well, that one's up in the air, although UO definitely wins for longevity at the moment. System Shock 2 wins for best horror game, the Sims and the Sims 2 deserve a mention for best toilet-scrubbing recreation, I' m a huge fan of the whole SimCity series (although I tend to cheat), I'm eagerly awaiting Civ IV... I could go on for days.

4. How you plan on fulfilling the first responsibility listed in the job posting, "act as a liaison between game players and development staff."

I know this is a loaded question, so I'll be sneaky. I'll fulfill that role pretty much the same way that Ash did. We have specific channels available to us, and I will use them to the best of my ability. I really can't go in to any more detail.

Kiranya - I haven't played with any wolves yet, but I intend to - in no small part because of your passionate endorsement of them.

As for some of the more random questions - I live in Texas, obviously. I do like rootbeer. I am not the Black Isle Sarge, although I'd like to be. Nor am I the red vs blue Sarge. ChuckHoboDUH - I haven't seen your medication but everybody, start looking!

This is nothing Personal Sarge but this is Typical of NCsoft Hiring some1 that doesnt have any real knowlege of the game and no experience of playing it even the ingame GM`s are pure "COPY & PASTE" masters and most time have no clue what they are talking about!

Those of us from early UO days share special memories. It may be off-topic, but there is a lot of UO type feel in L2, which is the part of L2 I love.

I remember that day in September 97' when I drove very fast to my local store to pick up my copy that just arrived that morning. Started on Lake Superior too, but went to Catskills when it came up; eventually to Napa, Siege, so on.

As far as the skills to be a community coordinator, though a thorough knowledge of the game would be helpful, the real skills for the job transcend the game.

This game isn't so complex as to warrant someone to be playing a year hardcore in order to be the Community Coordinator.

Not everyone is cut out to be a Community Coordintor and I bet more people are cut out to play video games.

Therefore the rare skills that one must have (being able to deal with us in a professional manner for one) should take top priority.

Again... Welcome Sarge (Quake 3 did come to mind when I first saw your name).

You'Re on StT. I mean, 1000 adena from StT is a sweet deal. Then again, I've been known to lose a few bets.

I've run a few behavioral tests, it (he/she) answered them all, even if it never addressed me directly. It was probably instructed not to engage the Devil too fast...

Preliminary results point to a woman.

But I won't speculate more on this until we get a clear answer from it. Until then, I'll just call it "it".

I'll admit to playing the Sims, Honey. Oh no wait, I'll admit to nothing ! HAhahahahahahaha ! Played once, made a nice couple, but then the stove burned and my two chars caught fire. :eek:

Hmmm, wouldnt be so sure about those. The reliability of those can be deceiving. A person who wants to decieve you can make a 'mistake' in 'admitting' to play a game as Sim. And lets face it, the handle can also be used to confuse. Sarge and Woodsman for example shout out that they are male.

as for your gaming history, well im an UO player myself, played from the very start and still paying for my UO accounts buying expansions etc etc, Learned the world in Atlantic, and ruled Drachenfels and Europa when they came out.

Sims eh? well i tried that once, and made a couple, bought myself a PC to enjoy, left him to eat sleep and piss all he liked, but then the friendly neighborhood girl started showing up very frequently, so i waited and at the right time....

....i just build walls around them and let them starve to death or drown in their own pee whatever came first...

PK'ng in Sims is very fun...

And we all know that girls don't like PvP games now don't we ;)

This is nothing Personal Sarge but this is Typical of NCsoft Hiring some1 that doesnt have any real knowlege of the game and no experience of playing it even the ingame GM`s are pure "COPY & PASTE" masters and most time have no clue what they are talking about!

I have to take some exception to this. Ash was extremely knowledgeable regarding Lineage II before he was even considered for his post and either actual game knowledge or interest in Lineage II was a very strong influence on who got the job this time around.

My professional opinion is that it is vital for the community team to not only understand Lineage II, but to be enthusiastic advocates of the game and the players.

Whether it is Community or CS or QA, there is a strong tendency at NCsoft to get people for the various Lineage II teams that understand and, yes, play the game.
