They did a re-launch of L2 here with every Chronicle so far, but I don't think they did something as massive as this for C2 and C3.
Run it through Babelfish for amusing results, but the pictures pretty much speak for themselves I guess. ^_^

That elf cosplayer is so cute! Even with dark hair. Now I want dark haired elves. :(

I suppose publicity works different over there than in America (or here in Europe, where it's... nigh non-existant!). Seems like a fun event.

yeah >.<

Why cant we get all this things again?

Because they have... how many times more players than us? The more players you have, the more free resources you have for 'special' staff.

Make sure to follow those links at the end of the article, too.
Lots of info about C4 in the press here before the actual launch.

And as special surprise for Maline and not so subtle hint from where I originally hail from: "Gruesse in die kalte Heimat" :p

Hehe - I can't read Japanese at all* for the information, but there are a lot of nice pictures too. ;)

* Actually, 'Just well enough to slowly pick out the name of a game character, IF it's written in katakana or hiragana' is more accurate. But, that's pretty much not at all.

make rates 2x and u will see a lot of more european / north american players.

we dont have as much time to play like korean / japan.

here we socialize with ppl in coffe shops, malls... in japan/korea they socialize in huge internet cafe and lan houses while they play

Maline, Yagi said, "Greetings from the cold homeland." in German. I would say he was German initially, now living in Japan.

If you think Japanese people have more time to play than American's you are sorely mistaken. Japanese people spend more time at school than pretty much any other country, likewise for work. They have very little free time and lead a very intensive lifestyle.

So you can put that one on the backburner.

Actually, the Japanese service has only 2 more servers than the N.A. service. Just a little note.

I seem to remember their subscriber numbers being significantly larger - though I might be wrong.

And yes, I did realise he was German. :o But I sort of ... didn't know what to say, so I replied to the part about reading the info. ^^

Thats the koreans you're thinking of.

I am not sure about L2 NA. Perhaps its more expensive, perhaps some of the money goes to other NCSoft NA projects, there's no way of knowing.

Sooooo, why isn't Mistryl posing in a wedding gown? huh, huh, huh?

the point was what they do with their free time. Most North Americans socialize elsewhere and not in internet cafes and such where it is more often to do so with their free time. I remember hearing too Japan had 10 servers? We have 8 is that such a big difference? But again it's harder to hold an event here because everyone is spread out while in Japan no one is more than half a days drive away.

Thanks, I can keep 'country of origin' and 'other overseas market' apart. I don't know how the thought got into my head, but definitely not by confusing Japan and Korea.

South Korea and Japan are 2 very different cultures ... the reason why South Korean lan parlours are so succesful is the need for young people to express themselves in a highly conservative culture ...

Article on Lineage 1's Popularity in Sth Korea (http://www.time.com/time/interactive/entertainment/gangs_np.html)

Another reason for the large subscriber base in Sth Korea is that not everyone plays Lineage for fun, game items and trading for real world currency is a reality, people actually treat the Lineage world like a mini stock market

Korea Times Article (http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/culture/200506/kt2005060216574511700.htm)

Korean Online Game Item Trading Site (http://item.playforum.net/)

I could say that North Americans spend more time socialising by substance abuse, over-eating, alcohol and sleeping around but that would just be a gross generalisation, please do your research first before offending more people then you have to

Japan has an extremely modern and affordable internet broadband access system. For example a 100Mb/s optical fiber connection to your home will cost you about 30 Euro per month and given the overall pricelevel here, that's even cheaper than it sounds.
And while internet cafes (and those specially catering to online games) do exist, they are by far not as popular and numerous here as in South Korea. Which btw has an excellent broadband coverage (mostly DSL), too.

So what I'm saying here is that the vast majority of Japanese L2 players is doing so from home (google/wikipedia for otaku). ;)

I don't think that L2 serves much as a virtual social meeting place here, there are other online services and games that fill this niche.
For example I know (of) several other people on Lionna (and on other servers from reading these boards) who are in Tokyo or Japan at least. And I've never met a single one of them, despite the close physical proximity.

So last I checked, Japan had about half the population of USA. So their 10 servers vs our 8 is really like 20. But on the other hand, they're always ahead of USA on technological innovations.

And they always got the cuties to decorate the booths. Blatant objectification ftw! :D
