been messing around on the PTS, preparing for C4. my main there was a Moonlight Sentinel, subbed to a Warlock. last week, I finally got around to getting a A grade bow crafted for my main, selling my A grade weapon for the Warlock. meant to save up to get a new weapon for the Warlock, but never got around to it. today I was showing a friend all the neat stuff coming in C4 tomorrow, and switched back to my Warlcok sub, and hunted a while with my cats and a Soul Bow. I didn't expect this to work all but so well, but it seemed to function outstandingly well, with me standing in one central location, and ordering my cat around to take out mobs in one big circle, more or less, picking up the loot every tenth mob or so.

my question comes in, has any summoner had any experience with using a bow on the live servers? is it truly a viable way to level as a day to day thing? or is there some problem i'm overlooking?

I'll be hitting B grade on my Warlock on live within a month, and I've been trying to make up my mind on what B weapon to shoot for. I figured on focus duals or hasted fist weapons, but it seems like perhaps a bow may be yet another viable option.

I guess that is the only downside of having general weapon masteries, your choices are nearly limitless.

Bow is not a good weapon to use if you don't have focus, dw and guidance, without theos buffs bows pointless specialy in PvP sitation the damage is not good enought and slow. My experience with summoners is that duals truly do add more damage, specialy fire off cubic a lot more then what bows do even.

For PvP duals or one handed weapons is a must, bows really aint good here, My dwarf easely taken my friends PS when he use bow but with duals... I have no chans..... Just due hte cubics ^^. Plus he miss quite a bit with the bow.

Don't get a bow. You'll thank me later.

Get a 2-handed, duals, fists, or a dagger w/ shield. SAs you should be looking for are guidance (which isn't a bad SA for duals), backblow and focus. Focus is one of the best SAs and should be the #1 priority...

[/ QUOTE ] Bows are fairly convenient for summoners. I personally think Guidance is a good summoner SA, as our increased mana regen/recovery abilities make Cheap Shot kind of a wash. It is a viable way to level, although the aggro it causes can be unpredictable due to the bow's properties. DPS will be lower with a bow than with most melee weapons, but it's good for an opener, for targets that are running away, etc.

There is a problem you're overlooking--cubic fire rate. Bows spend half of their time not attacking (cooldown) and have slow or very slow fire rates even for the active time. You will notice a drastic difference with offensive cubics.

I'd recommend a bow as a secondary rather than primary weapon. Unlike Box_of_Fox, though, I'd think about Health as an SA--Focus is better for PvE grinding, but Health is better for PvP and tight situations.

Health, meh. A good SA but I never make PvP setups-- why have PvP equipment when you can be a higher level then your enemies? ;)

As a fellow Warlock, on the hindemith server I would advice you against using a bow to level with or party with. Your damage out vs the amount of arrows and soulshots used can become extremely costly in a party or solo.

Use something cost effective like a blunt , duals or 2 handed sword.

I currenlty am using a Dragon Slayer because of the amount of damage it does, coupled up with DW and focus buffs makes for excellent leveling specially with wind walk.

ON the other hand for PVP (sieges, Raids, just about anything you don't want to get close to) a bow is EXCELLENT.

I currently am outfitted in Majestic, with a Carnage bow /w SA critical bleed, definetly a excellent mode for pvp.

meh, I figured as much. I already planned to get focus duals at B grade. the bow was simply a thought that ran through my head because I got stuck with one on PTS for a bit.

I'm only lvl 44, but I'm planning ahead. Doom light for the armor. blue wolf light was the other option, but I like the +3 dex from doom, simply because I am simply sick of the 121 run speed a human mystic is stuck with. the increased casting speed from BW wasn't enough to change my mind otherwise. ('sides, I already plan to get a +4 wit tat soon as I can anyway).
the increased pattk is simply gravy. not that my pattk will matter much now that my summon has ss, but every little bit helps.

also considering heavily tatting up my dex. I can get a total of +8 dex with doom light. means I will end up with a run speed of 130 ish, and an attack speed in the low 400's with duals, which appeals to me.

Im going to try the route of using a Kris with Focus. I have Doom light waiting for 52 and Ill probably just tat my str agian for more Dex *currently i have -4 str +4 con now and at 52 it will be -8 str +4 con +4 dex and -4 int + 4 wit or -4str +4 con and -8int +4 wit +4 men*

which tat set up sounds better? *mainly pve probably then after 61 ish if i make it there again I'll pvp*

for any questions about tats you may have, I would like to refer you to http://www.l2pets.com

go to the forum and check it out, you will find that the summoners there have a huge difference in opinion on tats and which ones to use, if you shift through the crazy posts your bound to find some useful info.
