So if you haven't learned, use the best pole you can afford, it does more damage to the fish so you catch it faster. Fishing Shots add damage. You can get fishing shots from taking the quest from the fisherman in any town. The location you fish does not effect the fish you catch, it's determend by your level. Keep the Pump/Reel/FishingExpertise as close as you can together in levels. When you have a fish hooked, there is a blue bar in the bottom of the window. When the bar is moving up slightly, or the fish is regening, you REEL. When the blue bar is not moving at all, standing still, you PUMP. It's that easy.

How do I locate where the places to fish are ?
The guide stataes;
Fishing holes are home to fish abundant enough to enable fishing. Fish usually inhabit waters where the breathing gauge is displayed or regions with unique water quality such as the Goddard Hot Springs.
Is this "Breathing gauge" shown on the map somewhere ?

the breathing gauge is the bar that pops up on your screen when u enter deep water :)
Edit: has anyone yet tried to fish at a cata/necro entrance ? Sadly i am still at work and cannot try now ;)

Yes, basically any body of water that you can enter with a breath guage, even if you cant get to it (example the water that runs through aden castle town) is fishable, just run as close as u can get to the water and use your fishing skill, it will let you know. Yes btw I have fished in the catacomb water.

yes you can...i caught a big blue trease chcest :) and got party mask fabrick from it :)

also..is there a way to automate the fish SS? i hate having to keep clicking it

Anyone know whether you should max out your fishing skills or keep them low till you figure out what the heck you're doing?

Yes there is, just like with regular shots.
But it's not a good idea, you du the first pumping or reeling on a guess and if you mis the fish gets more hp, and with shots when you make this mistake fish gets 2x more hp compared to without shots.

I was told not to go above lvl 5, cause then the HP bar of the fish disappears.. no idea if thats true

build a hotbar just for fishing. put your pole, lures, and skills on there .. then do not forget to put a weapon you can tag fast, in case you happen to reel in a sea monster (i got a sea horse)

I was wondering, can you fish off of a boat. This would be really nice, and would give you something to do than just sit there.

Bah, I made the mistake of leveling up my reel and pumping skills to the maximum, while my fishing skills is only lvl 1 (it shouldn't go over 3). My questions is: how do I raise the level of the 'fishing' skill itself ? O.o I can't do this from the NPC at the grocery stores..
Can anyone help ?

The fishing skill stays at level 1, its just basically the skill that makes you cast, its the fishing expertise/pump/reel to keep in close level, you will get a penalty if they get too far apart.

and remember folks: if u max out the level of fishing expertise, u better have the money for a S-Grade rod, or you will have trouble getting any fish...
