View Full Version : Power Shot/Strike and Mortal Blow

I'm a new player to the game, and I noticed something about gameplay that just didn't seem quite right. When you've selected a target and activated the Power Shot skill (available to newbs), the character will execute the attack -provided the proper equipment is worn- and remain passive. However, when you use the Power Strike skill, and similarly, Mortal Blow, the character will automatically begin to attack the target after executing the skill.

I thought it was strange that those two, extremely similar abilities would have an 'auto attack' function, while the bow would not, especially seeing as it's a little bit more difficult to double-click to attack with a bow.

In short, I would like to see this 'automatic' characteristic added to Power Shot. :)

Thanks much.

it doesnt help that MB wont overhit, and Powerstrike wont hit hard :p

good idea tho, at least we are thinking!

That may not have been added because of the bow's unique firing characteristics and the fact that the preferred method of using a bow is to "kite" your opponent rather than standing and firing.

When I want to keep attacking, I just spam the attack key. It would be nice to not have to do that, I agree, but this is better than keep clicking on your target.
...I just realised what you're talking about. When you mentioned auto attack, I thought you were having trouble in pvp. But my suggestion helps in pve too. just put your attack key on your hot bar (the white sword on the blue background).

Edit: Oh, I see this has already been suggested... sry

Point made, but that doesn't justify Power Strike behaving the same way. Why should you have to Strike someone, then attack them?

I suppose I found this particularly irritating because I'm not exactly thrilled with target selection in-combat, and Fkeys don't make the most fluid shortcuts, either.

Nice to see some opposing opinions!

There is a weakness to each of these skills.
1) Powerstrike - weak
2) Mortal Blow - misses
3) Powershot - doesn't continue attack

1) with the box checked "enter chat" you can kit the keys on the keyboard (i.e. numbers not F keys) to use skills, bring up menus etc without hitting the Alt+ key.

2) Powerstrike has Overhit capability. which means it can be used to gain extra exp and SP if it is used as the last hit on a mob, essentially "over hitting" them.

you will notice that powershot doesnt have overhit capability, and also doesnt consume arrows. this would indicate that it is a skill to be used at any time during the sequence of hits you perform, not necessarily the last hit. try auto-attacking, and after 2 or more hits, use Powershot. youll continue to attack iirc.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm going to assume that you meant "Power Shot" everywhere you said "Strike", because otherwise that really made no sense at all given your original post.

Of course, if that's what you meant, maybe I should explain my previous statement in a little greater detail:
1) Unique firing characteristics: normal attacks and special attacks with bows have seperate cooldown timers, meaning that, if you so choose, you can stagger them...but often you won't want to!
2) Kiting your opponent: a big reason to not stagger them, see above ;)

That is the justification--bows could get screwed up by an autoattack function, while melee weapons do not have that problem.

It not continueing to attack isnt a problem at all, i think its a good thing actually. As said just make an F key to attack. Click the mobs name with what ever hand you use the mouse with then eg hit F2 to attack (thats my attack key) with your other hand. Its simple and the most effective way tbh. Besides, use power shot for an Over-hit to end the fight or for emergency use, that makes the most out of its high MP cost.
