Well I know that variations of what I am about to suggest have been posted in the past. But I'll do it anyway since its been awhile since its been brought back up.

Bring in a NPC Assassins Guild in the game. This is a PvP world is it not? This type of system would be perfect. Here is how it would work:

There would be 2 ways of getting revenge on that person thats been griefing you in the game.

1. You can contract someone to kill anyone in the game through the Assasins guild. You would essentially List the name of the person with the NPC Assasisn's Guild and you will need to put up a reward for that contract. If no one claims your contract in 3 days, your contract will die and the money you put up say, arbitrarily (just a suggestion) 100,000 adena (just to contract the kill you pay to the Assasin's guld will be forfeit, this is not including the reward money you have to put up for the contract).

The person or persons will need to accept the contract within the first 3 days its posted. If no one claims it in 3 days, it will disappear as stated above. but once the contract is taken up, that person or persons who have contracted to kill the specified person will have 1 full week to deliver his receipt of kill (which will drop off the target person, once the contract is fulfilled (target person is killed)). Its a free for all so whoever kills the target will receive the receipt of kill but whoever kills the killer can also gain the contract of kill, which will drop upon the killer's death, only to Players, not to any NPC monsters or etc... So anyone can kill for the receipt of kill once it is out. The faster you turn the receipt of kill in, the faster the Quest for kill will disappear from anyone who have contracted to kill the target, notifying that the reward has been claimed.

If the contract fails to be taken up or fulfilled in 3 days or 7 (1 week), the reward you put up for the contract will return to the owner, although the fee that you paid to put up the contract will be forfeit, as stated earlier.

All regular PvP rules will apply as well as XP loss. You sign up to kill a person and you kill him without him hitting back means you turn Red, etc...

I'm sure others will/can add more to this but this is what I came up with so far

2. The second way of hiring a kill is a direct method. You pay the NPC Assasin's Guild x amount of adena say 1-10million adena depending on the level of the target player. Then the NPC Aassasin will Spawn 3 same level NPC characters to the target player. They will spawn on random, anytime within 1 week of the time of contract and will all 3 spawn at the same time. Then they will walk/run or mount on NPC striders from where the Assasin's Guild is housed toward the target player, once he is verified to be online. The NPC Killers will have the lowest armor and weapon of the target player's level grade. They will set out to Kill the target player. If they fail to kill the target player in combat, they will reveal the name of their contractor to the target player. This contract will be active until 7 full in game days that the target player is online.

This would become a griefing tool you realize that dont you? I can see farmers post a reward on a daily basis against some of their bigger pests. Also, this would be a serious problem for clanleaders.

So to make things more interesting for both sides we need more rules. For one, only one claim can be accepted for a single target each week. Also, you cannot put a claim in for yourself.

Contract PC Killers. When the PC killer dies, he will lose his contract and the fone being assasinated can now claim half the reward money from the assasin guild. Or he can request the name of the one putting the contract on him.

Contract NPC killers. First of, they will be of the same class as the victim is. Secondly, when they die, they will drop say roughly half the amount of adana they costed to hire.

This can also be exploited easily.

Say, player A puts a price of 10million on the head of player B. B hears of this, calls his buddy player C and lets C kill him. C gets the receipt, resses B with % rez and then they go to the NPC and cash in the money and split it accordingly. So, the one you wanted to kill actually benefits in the end :) And with all the nice % res etc B wouldnt lose much exp.

Heck, I would do that all the time if someone would pay for killing me :P

Therefore player A must hope that it is not a buddy of player B that gets the contract.

well true but who would put 10m on a contract? Heck if someone put 10m on a contract, you'll see a whole bunch of people after the target player.

Also the proof of kill paper goes to the one that kills the target player. Perhaps, a modification would be that whoever kills the target person and receives the proof of kill, that information is updated on the Assasin's Guild until its turned in. Therefore making whoever has the proof of kill as the new target, until it is turned in.

As the assasin most liekely will be red, he would need to be fast about getting to the contactperson then (Floran sounds like a proper place or the lost village for the higher level contacts). The idea of the hunter becoming the hunted has a certain appeal to me.
