No blacksmith this 7 sign period. Nothing to see here, move on, and make sure seal of gnosis gets 35% next time...

That much is obvious.
Someone explain this (http://www.lineage2.com/Knowledge/sevensigns_2.html?worldid=8) to me then; at least the seals. What does Avarice broken mean? I guess I assumed that having Gnosis intact meant I could take advantage of it.

well, i am no seal expert myself...
But i believe that the seal has to be broken to use its benefits.
Avarice is broken, means that the Merchant of Mammon is about.
Dusk didnt break the Gnosis seal, so no Blacksmith of Mammon.
....and I have to agree with the last responder....yes :p

No, it is exactly the other way round. When a seal is "broken", the effect which had been sealed gets active. So when avarice is broken, the avarice effect becomes active - trader of mammon, and exclusive access to necropolis for the winning side.
Since gnosis and strife are NOT broken, we do not get the effect of those seals. And BS of mammon is one of the gnosis features.
So, to get both the trader and the blacksmith, you want gnosis and avarice both to be broken.

One of the listed benefits of Gnosis is access to Catacombs. Yet, I can still enter them... I don't get that either.

The seal being broken on that graphic, means that the side that won controls that seal. So Dusk controls the Seal of Avarice, meaning they are the only ones that can access the necropolises and the Trader of Mammon.
Since 35% of Dusk did not vote for the Seal of Gnosis, No one won the Seal of Gnosis, which means that there are no preachers of doom/orators of revelation, Anyone can go into the Catacombs, but there is no Blacksmith of Mammon, and no Seal Stone dropping mobs within.
If 35% had voted for the Seal of Gnosis thats when the buff/debuff guys that wont shut up appear, and only the side that wins can go into the Catacombs, converse with the Blacksmith of Mammon, etc.
EDIT : Lol 3 replies entered while i was typing that :o

That's something I was not 100% sure about until this week, since it never happened - what happens if either gnosis or avarice is controlled by nobody? The description says that one of these seals being broken grants exclusive access to the winning side to either necropoli or catacombs. Now we know that they mean it exactly the way it is written - it does not grant simply "access", it grants "exclusive access". Meaning that if one of these seals is not broken, ANYBODY can enter that type of dungeon. If you look closely, you will also notice that there are not the exact same mobs in the catacombs as when the seal is broken.

yeah, exactly, all the mobs that drop Seal Stones (Nephilm, Lilim, Lith, Gigant) are not in the Catas during the Seal Validation period if no one controls the seal. First time I went in there this week i thought it looked different, but it took me a minute to figure out what it was that was different.

Alright, I'll try to explain it as simple as possible Sir.E hopefully I Won't overload your brain.
There are 2 signs Dusk and Dawn, and there are 3
<ul type="square">
Seal of Avarice -Controls necropolis & Trader of Mammon
Seal of Gnosis - Control Catacombs & blacksmith of mammon + debufs/buffs for winning and loosing sides
Seal of Strife -Controls Taxes and Siege related issues (npcs, wyvern, etc)
[/list]
Follow me so far?
Well what happens is when you select what side you fight for you also select what seal you want to fight for, (this is the part alot of people screw up or just not smart enough to understand)
When you pick a seal you are casting a vote for what seal you would like to see put in place.
For a seal to be put in place, each cabal (or side) must achieve 35% of votes for a seal that hasn't yet been won [ I.e They havn't won yet]. These votes are out of a total of 100% (duh) which means no side can achieve all 3 seals during the first time of winning.
for example
avarice -35%
gnosis -35%
Strife - 30%
is the maximum that can be achieved when going for 2 seals.
in the example above because both gnosis and avarice is above 35% when competition period is over during the seal validation period, both gnosis and avarice will be given to us.
NOW to apply it to current situation
Avarice - 35%
Gnosis - 35%
Strife 30%
notice how close it is? this is because alot of votes have been spreaded around... now if someone suddenly pumps alot of votes into lets say strife.....
Avarice -35%
Gnosis - 32%
Strife - 33%
Then 2 seals are no longer above the 35% requirement and thus when the competition period is over only avarice will be rewarded.
Which means that only the benifit of Avarice will be awarded to the winning side and removed from the loosing side. BUT since Gnosis wasn't won, access to the catacombs is still granted, and debuffs are not apparent, while access to the necropolis will be denied to the loosing side due to avarice being in place.
BUT there is a 2nd side to this.... upon the next competition period The requirement for any seal that has been previously broken is Reduced to 10% so then it is now possible for a side that wins twice in a row to achieve ALL 3 seals! (not been done on this server)
so in the above example
Avarice -10%
Gnosis - 45%
Strife - 45%
Is max possible votes allowed to unlock ALL 3 seals at one time by a side that has won twice.
HOPEFULLY you were able to understand that

Well, I thought I sorta had a handle on it. Still, sitting in one of the catacombs for about 2 hours waiting (like a complete dillhole) for the Blacksmith I did have a couple of "Hey, you're that guy" moments. No one PKed me, though, so that's a bonus.
