View Full Version : At-Risk Play...

Hindemith is not currently labelled "at risk play"...from my experience it would be fair to say that it is, label or not. At random intervals, with no warning, components of the server will lag or stop entirely, leading to odd game behavior and the occasional character death.

I've noticed a few things:<ul type="square"> Items: these will frequently "lag" for a few seconds, but on rare occasions they stop for a minute or more. During this time, players can move, attack, be attacked, chat with each other, etc...but cannot do anything involving items--no soulshots, no potions, no buying/selling, etc. Player Actions: I saw this one only once, but it was confirmed by every person I asked who had been in battle when it struck. For 15-30 seconds, players couldn't use any offensive actions (attack, skills, etc), but monsters could use them just fine. Naturally, this was rather unpleasant for the players.
The monsters haven't commented. Petition System: during longer stretches of these problems, I've seen the petition system go down. It even has a little voice message you get if you try to send a petition while it's down, telling you to try sending your petitions later--it'd be funny if it wasn't happening during the worst possible times...[/list] What quirks have you noticed, and do you believe a general "play at your own risk" message is in order?

Atleast this, if anything. :-/. We wont get new servers I am pretty sure or else they would have announced something, so atleast give us a "play at your own risk" message.

Too many ppl on hindemith.. wow.. when did this happen?

I've had that, but the other way around: For a while I could kill mobs w/o them fighting back. It would last say 2 minute, then back to normal, then mobs would "sleep" again. The same day, tho, my pet also go the same absences, wouldn't heal, wouldn't follow me, nothing, and then, all of a sudden, he would wake up, run to me (agroing ten mobs and killing me in the process once, of course, you always have that at least once :P), and, if I was lucky, heal me a couple of times before getting stuck again.

I've seen that one a few times after C4 release, when the servers kept crashing for a day or so.

I've noticed the auto-shot problem a lot recently. Probably because it's the difference between 2 or 3 shotting a mob. Or, after a kill and I run over to retrieve the drops, the shots fire after I've closed the distance. Pain in the ***.

[/ QUOTE ] They've had announcements for it in the past when the servers were having problems.

For Hindemith's current problems, though, the in-game GM's have a "blanket denial" policy. I petitioned asking about it (yes, I know it's probably pointless, call me a masochist) and got this answer:

As there is no server side issue that would create client side lag or connectivity issues.

...yeah, they're trying to say it's client-side lag when the NPC/PC/Item servers stop...lame.
(and that's not even a complete sentence, so double  )

Now that you mention it...

Blessed Scrolls of Escape (BSOE) which used to be instantaneous now seem to hiccup before they actually do their job. I've also noticed hiccups when using the GateKeeper as well. Other noticable things I've seen which I call Random Acts of Failure such as Automatic SoulShot now seem to miss-fire occasionally.

"I have succeeded in converting a +14 Bich'Hwa into 3122 d grade crystals using a Enchant D Grade Weapon Scroll (EWD)." - there's gotta be someone at the NCSoft Hindemith server saying, "OH, you want to over-enchant that weapon... DENIED!!!!!"

[/ QUOTE ] It's fun when items switch off during an AoE pull. Try doing polearm kills when suddenly potions and SS turn off and won't function for 5-10 seconds at a time.

Also, ouch. My dwarf probably hates me today.

The support link people give a similar answer when asked about deaths due to abnormal server behavior and whether or not there will be a warning announcement: [ QUOTE ]
Thank you for contacting Lineage 2 Support. There was no server lag at the time of your reported issue. Subsequently we will be unable to reimburse for any losses, as your death was caused by client-side lag. Please speak to your internet service provider to resolve your network problems.

[/ QUOTE ] ...so there you have it. Apparently my game client is capable of disabling items for the entire server. Everyone's soulshots, potions, and other items route through my PC, and if I lag, then nobody on Hindemith is able to use them.
I never knew I was so powerful, I promise to use my new-found ablitities only for good.

:)

At least we know why there's no warnings being posted/broadcast...heavy denial that anything unusual is going on. *sigh*

Edit: I also received this a couple hours later: [ QUOTE ]
At the time you specified, we did not receive widespread reports of latency and connectivity issues. Please keep in mind that there are many factors which can affect your connectivity to our servers, most of which are beyond our ability to monitor and control.

[/ QUOTE ]...still blaming lag and connections to the server, not the server's behavior.

It's always like that.
When something bad happens it's client side.
I'm sure they were in denial about the sweep bug being their fault for a long time as well. I can't see any other reasonable explanation (even though this one is ridicoulus enough as it is; still) for it taking that long amount of time.
These server side item lags are known for about the same period of time and they aren't even admitting it. Or commenting on it.

It's wanted tho...
The more you lose through this 'feature' the longer you grind, the longer you pay. :)

Just another ingenious C4 moneysink, like pets. :D

I've had this happen to me. I used a bsoe, and between the bsoe actually disappearing &amp; me porting, the mob got the last hit on me.. I died and did not end up at my clanhall :(
