I know it is more likely to happen if you know someone irl - who happeend to know password -who you may have trusted before lol - All they really need to know is Your Birthdate and the answer to your secret pass - i learned the hard way.

Anyone who reads this should make sure that LadyTears (literally) "dies a thousand deaths" -- pk her every single time you see her. I had an old account hacked by a keylogger, and though I didn't lose much (was low level at the time) it really leaves a sour taste in the mouth. PK PK PK!!

There are also email scams. Quite some time ago L2 had their email database hacked.. so if you get an email "from NC" that asks for you to click on a link and verify your account name/password, don't do it. They would never ask for it..

it seems the account WAS "hacked" .... last night i was able to get back into it using the secret answer and get rid of her credit card info for her ... the email address was changed to "xiaowei@hotmail.com"

No disrespect meant to the victim but I don't really believe in hacking; only in carelessness of clients. That's usually the case. A few years ago I worked for an ISP with over 2 million customers and we only had one case of hacking in that time, the rest were people having trojans, virusses etc because they clicked stuff they shouldn't, heh.

the only email she got from ncsoft was one saying that someone from a certain IP attempted to change her plaync master account password and to reply to them if it wasnt her. she replied "i did not try to change my password".

like i said i have no idea how someone could have gotten the acc name nvm any other information... and even if ive gotten the acc back it isn't safe to use since they can do exactly what the did and jack it again at any time...

Just a shot in the dark here, but watch the other L2 forums for what you download. One of my clannies was also hacked, claims he never shared his info, and the only DL he did was from blah. I can't verify of course, but just a caution against all downloads.

Not to mention the people that register on other forums and/or websites with the same username/password, or just the same password. Not every website md5/sha1's (encrypt) the DB passwords. Any website giving you your old password if you choose "I forgot my password" doesn't, and therefore is a bigger security-risk for your personal info then the ones that do encrypt them. (Besides the fact its far from smart to use your pass or username multiple times for important stuff)

Theres SO many ways for this victim to have made the so called hacker easy to get her account. Filesharing programs (kazaa, lime etc), trojans on the clientpc from questionable websites while using Internet Explorer, shared computers on schools, librairies or internetcafees with loggers, fake emails, easy guessable passwords.. And all of those are the fault of the client, not the company.

Hasn't that account been shared between a few people in the past? Not to start something but I could have sworn I heard that more than oneperson was playing it at one time. If that is true, I'd start there. ANd just because its a chinese word in the hotmail address, doesnt mean it's a chinese person that did it.

Usually when an acount gets hacked, its because the person has shared their account info with 1 or more people.

Sorrus, if you were able to get back into the account and change the password, it should be safe if you ensure that all keyloggers are gone, so they don't get it again. I'd wipe my hard drive, and re-load L2. I never download anything from any boards anywhere on the comp I play on, as I have been keylogged in L2 before.

The solution is obviously to hit them in the face with a hammer until they confess! Every account I know of where more than one person had the password...has been hacked at some point or another. People just don't seem to get it, and I can't really blame em. L2 teaches an important life lesson to us all, trust absolutely nobody. People are scum.

anyhow i phoned support and they give the old sorry we cant do anything we will upgrade this to the next lvl blah blah .... apparantly the passwords were changed via the secret question/answer and the only person that knew the answer to that was LT herself so maybe their security been infilatrated somehow i duno but be carefull .....

Cuase yesterday i left my shop up to sell some items, and when i came back i was missing my majestic robe set, A grade jewelry and who knows what else. And my pw is not simple at all, but for shure, one mistake did happen. I got the ip addresse locked on my router from where it came from. Im finding this mf. Hopefully he dont get banned but put in jail. Submitted a ticket to the hacking ajency from where it came from. Traced down to china. So i hope he get cought real good. :mad:

Real hacking seldom occurs, mostly it's 'friends' or stuff that was downloaded, intentionally or not. Silly logins and passwords and using them multiple times also helps - the other guy.

Hey sorrus just curious if you ever contacted the ISP you traced that IP back to? Depending on the type of service (lets say is some ****** on dialup) you could give them the IP and the date/time they should be able to tell you what account dialed up and got that IP. If it's cable or DSL I've never had to deal with a company about it, but I'm sure they would have the same logs. Even if this company won't tell you WHO was connected if you give them the details of what happened you could at the very least get his account cancelled. Just a thought.
