one of the best, yes.
true, he overdoes it at times, but if youre gonna play the guitar, play ALL of the guitar. not one beastly dang ol chord.
steve vai plays the WHOLE guitar.
now find the Crossroads Video and youll see just how MEAN he can be (remember he plays BOTH yngwie and Steve vai solos in the movie)

I think video is the way to go with Vai.
His music can get boring if you're just listening, but to watch he puts on quite a show.
Really Liberace style, with lots of extra flashy moves and antics.
When I saw him he even had a fan just to keep his hair moving like a model's.

I like Eddie but there's precious little about him that was original.

I beg to differ....Eddie was credited with being the first at fingering the frets. He and Van Halen were also credited for bringing back heavy metal in a time when glam rock was the in thing. True heavy metal was just about dead at the time.

He popularized hammer-ons but was definitely not the first. Not even close. He didn't "invent" them.

Possibly. The group was definitely a breath of fresh air. I have been a big Van Halen fan since 1978, have seen them in concert several times and own every one of their CDs. They're still on my "CD rotation".
