Now all you people work in the same building dont you talk to each other? First in conjunction of a new ad push for the CoH/CoV combine editiion and the 8th expansion they are doing the following:

In celebration of the new combo product City of Heroes® Good Versus Evil Edition, we are reactivating your account for the weekend. Just log into the game between now and 11:59pm EST on Sunday, October 8th 2006 and you will find your account reactivated FREE of charge!* Your hero and/or villain characters will be waiting just as you left them, ready for new adventures.

But hurry…this offer is only valid through the end of the weekend, and once it’s over, your account will again be deactivated unless you choose to re-subscribe.

Legions of heroes and villains await you. Good luck and have fun!

-The City of Heroes Team

Reactiving all accounts for the first weekend of the new issue for people to see all the changes.

Then VET BONUS PROGRAM NOW STARTING ALSO

In conjunction with the release of Issue 8: To Protect and Serve (click here for more information), NCsoft® and Cryptic Studios™ will launch the official City of Heroes® Veteran Rewards program. This program rewards our fans for their time spent supporting and playing City of Heroes® and City of Villains®.

Specifically, for each increment of three months with an active account**, players will unlock valuable in-game “items” which will come in the form of costumes, powers, badges, and more! The program is retroactive by player account and rewards will be applicable to all characters within each respective account.

First veteran item is going to be the ability to create new toons with wings......

So why doesnt L2 marketing/Event team get it? I mean your realeasing a new version of the game The epic collection or something like that but no marketing for it except for word of mouth, CoH/CoV the people right down the hall are doing another marketing push with the new issue....

I meant in L2. This would be a non-event.

its mostly to get old players back in the game. Why wouldnt you try out a game for a weekend to see if its worth coming back. 3 - 4 days isnt enough to get into the game but long enough to wet the pallate if intrests you.

l2 is a drug ..... the event team just has to be better pushers :)

L2 is the only subscription based game that I have ever played. A free weekend means nothing to me (that's less than one dollar, by the way).

Ah, but Lineage II already has you hooked. While you are not impressed, there are other players out there who might be interested in a free weekend (or week to adapt for L2 gameplay).

Doesn't matter. What can you learn about this game in a weekend that will keep you here? I can only think of things that would make people leave.

Besides, this is L2. Give them a weekend they'll cry it wasn't a week. Give them a week and they'll cry it wasn't a month...

The veteran system has been there for a good while afaik, the wings is just the latest addition.

I think the earliest reward you get is the ability to wear trenchcoats. They look pretty neat with the lower half being dynamic cloth, like the capes.

Probably. I guess NCSoft would just have to do something really clever to give new players the L2 experience in a short time (which can be a week when you consider how long it takes to get to the good parts :p).

If you know what you're doing. People keep saying "you can get to 20 in a day" or "you can get to 40 in a week" but they never say if you're a twink and experienced and have OOP buffers. A truly new player, who knows no one and starts is going to do squat in a weekend. They'll probably be able to do squat + bupkiss in a week. They probably will see plenty of bots or griefers, though.

Special premade characters for trial accounts then? They could have a locked inventory and cannot attack other players (PvP is part of the L2 experience, but I can see some malicious players using the souped up characters to hassle lowbies- and the promise of PvP could be the lure).

There has to be a simple way to get new people to try out the game and see what is in store for them if they stay with the game, and all this within a short period of time.
