Well there is just 2 A grade armors you would want.

DC = Dark Crystal Robes, best PVP armor ever for ANY nuker, +2 INT +25% cast speed and well yeah.

Nightmare can work for an SH thoght you will miss out the 25% cast speed, but get quite nice M.atk.

But if i was you, I would chose DC.

The two sets of armor I use are:

1> DC robe set for most everything
2> Demon set for raids and for those cases where I can 2 shot with the extra Matk from Demon but takes 3 shots with DC

Just get DC and have a spare demon set. Its basically the same as nightmare but it has less pdef, which for grinding isnt too big of a deal if your just out soloing doom knights etc..

The best a spellhowler can have is the dark crystal robe set. And you can relax knowing in terms of wit itself, you will have just as much as spellsinger who wears nightmare, while still maintaining 3 more int than the spellsinger with a nightmare set. And personally, I would take the demons et for a female spellhowler over the nightmare set just because it looks better, forgetting for a moment that the +4 int bonus is going to increase your magic attack by more than the +2 int and 8% increase from the nightmare robes bonus. No I have no idea why the crappier set bonus on the nightmare needs a -2wit while the demon set only gives you a -1 to your wit. Nor do I understand why the dark crystal robe reduces your mentatility instead of your int and still increases your casting speed.

In order for the ngihtmare set to actually be usable, it needs to increase your int by +4 and have an 8% m attack increase if it is going to reduce a mages wit by 2, or keep its current bonus and move the reduction from wit to mentality.

Quite simply, the demon set is bar none the best mage set NC has ever developed, and for some reason I don't uinderstand, they've refused to simply copy it for each successive grade level. Instead we see the incredibly bad doom set for B grade, and the not very good nightmare set for A grade. And there was some S grade set bonus which set out to increase every important mage stat but ending up falling far short of the finish line.

It's sadly true, spellsingers have 3 less stat points in the important mage stats of wit and int. Thus the difference in int between the highest and lowest is only 4, while the difference in int between a spellhowler (highest) and spellsinger (lowest) is an incredible 7. This is probably why spellsingers are so bad in parties, they have 3 fewer useful mage stat points. That extra +3 men is most definitely not creating a noticeable difference in my regen rate, or at least it hasn't during the last year and a half I've spent on my bottom regening mp every few minutes while I watch a spellhowler go at it for hours on end. Something about having a little ability called body to mind seems to more than offset their lack of an extra 3 men.
