As the title says, i'm curious as to your motivation for making a dwarf (preferably if it's your main)?
Mine was because the girls are too dang cute :D
Well that and the fact that backstories for them are very easy to create :) Least for me, I like making character histories (I dabble in RP)

More inventory space and the ability to craft. And no, it is not my main, I would never play a dwarf as a main as they're so gimped and hated by NCSoft.

I like playing a dwarf simply because it's almost always handy to have one around (I like to party).

Because I always play Dwarves of some kind or another in online games, I like crafting stuff, and I like making lots of money.

- Storage space
- Durability
- AoE ability
- Spoiling makes solo killing less mind-numbing
- Stun is fun in PVP

I started my dwarf as an alt to craft shots for my main, but for some reason I got stuck with it and it ended up as my main while my old main got deleted lol
Female dwarfs looks so cool when they are subclassed + you can always give another player a little surprise when you suddenly come up subclassed and a Destroyer while still wearing your dwarf equipment (dwarfs/destro can use same equipment) and hit them for few k damage with frenzy

I made my dwarf to be the crafter of a clan some friends and i where putting together in Open Beta. He is still my main but i have alts. Back then people had to give you all of the materials if they wanted something crafted. I was one of a few that had the Glaive recipe registered. I would get pm'd from someone who wanted to craft it and i would let them hold onto something of equal value while i crafted it. That told them i was honest and they would spread the word. Much better times for a dwarf back then.

hmm, i started playing a dwarf cause they were cute and i liked crafting in other games so i wanted to try it out. was abit though for me at around 50 as i had problems getting groups, but later i got a good clan and i started to level fairly fast.
now i usually have more fun as my MAestro then on the other classes i have, we aint good DDs, but we still can manage to do well enough.
ps, i hate my necro nowdays, i havent leveld it since mid C5 when i hit 78 with it. i just think its so boring hunting with it, i can spend hours running around with my Maestro but 40 min on my necro and i feel like i want to do something else, usually try find ppl and die so i end up with less XP then before i started to hunt.

I played a Paladin for a long time, quite a long time solo... Got really bored, parties hardly ever actually need a tank, you feel useless.
I gave myself a new start on a new server, and I love it. I've got lvl 53 after just 2 weeks 3 days, in a great clan, I can help clannies with crafting stuff, I have a Golem for more DPS whenever needed, and I can craft SS all night long and sell overnight making even more money. Its soooooo much cooler than my Paladin could have ever hoped to be.

After seeing how much money my brother was making from his BH back in prelude and c1 there wasno doubt that i needed one too (was playin de mystic and knight before).
Back then i could just spoil stuff i needed for my equipment and sell crafting recipes that where spoil only to warsmiths.
It was only logical to do a BH because it was the only way to get needed Equip cheaper.
What can i say it worked out so far.
Beside that female looks cute and have the best emotes.
Spoil is fun makes the grind more reasonable.
I was always under the impression playing L2 as a dwarf especialy BH is playin the game on very hard.

I made both a BH and A WS no they not my main (my mains and in my Sig) and on second accounts but Imade them because they are needed for making money in this game. If you don't know how make money with them then you don't know how play a dwarf. My BH is also great for lvling my many pets I can load up on 50K ss and run out into the wild and I'm gone for days with my pet and now with my new Black Wolf (they eat a lot less now) I don't even need ss I can do like the farmers and take a whole room with no ss and make pure money from spoils.
If I didn't like my PW/Glad so much I would make my BH my main :D

The best reason to roll a dwarf is to beat some in PVP, stand over their corpse, and let loose a "Yeah...that just [censored]ing happened."

I originally chose a spoiler because my little gaming group back then consisted of a couple human fighters, one mage and a light elf...it just seemed natural to add a dwarf to the mix!
We hunted alot on Talking Island, then when they got tired of L2 and quit, I hunted alot in the Abandoned Coal Mine running the 2 money quests, amassing (to me) a fortune. I used to revel in training the farmers and one time, got a manticore skin shirt as a drop from one.
I keep playing a dwarf because I am just absolutely in love with the idea of having a subclass. I want to be a PS and then a Sword Singer :p Oh, and I like to see mobs turn blue and give me their BO Ring Rec's and GHP's :p

I thought I would be more self sufficient with the spoiling and crafting. It didnt say anywhere in the owners manual, that there were going to be hundreds of godd#$# bots around, and that most people will just ebay to get their gear.
TY for lying to me NCSoft. Oh well, I guess you can't be naive forever.
Schmusekatze
12-17-2007, 04:09 PM
Back when I created my Dwarf char Schmusekatze in open beta, it was, cause I read the class description and felt "yeah, that is it !". A brave dwarven Warrioress, hunting in places that elves do not dare going, killing dragons, crafting fine gems, armors and weapons...
That worked pretty well, until the game started to get updates... with every update, I was looking at the list.. searched for the second page of it, where there was the good stuff for the Dwarves.. and did not find it.
Then there came spoil sharing and all of a sudden I was getting groups... Unfortunately I also got kicked from groups, when I spoiled something really valuable.. and someone else got it. I was still the money maker.. but like the donkey in the fairy tale, I was not making the money for myself, but just for my "masters".
Those days I started creating other chars and level the only char on my account, that was older than my dwarf char (yet lower levels).. And so I leveled a bishop, a necro, a phantom summoner, a phantom ranger, a monk.. and now I level a Warder.
My dwarf is still my main char, as I see it, even though I hardly play her. In my heart, I will always be a dwarf with every char.. and in fact I am, as I am easily making more money with the faster killing chars than I can with my Bounty Huntress.
I will rather drop dead from my chair, than ever allowing an elf on my account.
These days, I am making a slow comeback with my BH as well.. Slowly the fun playing her comes back. I still need to kill thousands of mobs, before I can wear A grade, but that is no problem, as I cannot afford A grade anyway.
I guess I am just to stubborn to give up.
And so I am slowly searching for a clan, that would have me.. 3-5 chars, all actively played.. with under 50 Mio of cash and no char beyond lvl 60.

Schmuse i would love to have u in my clan or ally. We are only a few but really work for equip and stuff.
When you start to spoil at beast farm you will see the money will come in fast.
Anyway if u go there expect still PKs from the Firedragons.

I suppose I started playing my dwarf as a combination of the class description in prelude (a sad joke) and the ability to create siege golems needed to garuntee success/failure on the battlefield. The male was alright, but I really liked the idea of my cute little female with a ginormous hammer (took 5 chronicles for me to get it too!).
What kept me playing the dwarf was that it was so difficult at times. When groups would turn me down because of my class, it would make me more determined than ever to become better than them. With my friends going out of their way to get me initially invited to groups, I made sure to keep the party chat lively so i'd be remembered and possibly invited by those ppl again. When someone would tell me im worthless to the group because i'm a dwarf who can't even spoil, it really did light a fire in me to keep lvling my WS. Maybe I just love the underdog role or maybe I just love punishment, either way it got me to where I am. Now i'm most often the one forming groups, running the show with my polearm abilities, and deciding who we need and who is worthless to MY groups.
I like the fact that lvl's didn't come easy for dwarves, and have alot of respect for any non-automated dwarf mains, regardless of their tag/position in the game.

I don't only play one dwarf but two. During OB my main was a dark wizard, then it came that my clan got the DSS recipe. At this time you didn't have a recipe book you just had to click on the recipe to make the stuff. Since the dwarf artisan didn't want to use it to make money I asked him to give it to me and I started playing an artisan.
But at the end of OB I felt I'll need to spoil stuff so I started a scavenger as well. I always level them alternatively, the scavenger gets the recipes and key mats, the artisan goes for drops and manor stuff. They share the same stuff.
Now I have lots of alts, yesterday I played my Pallus Knight it was a wonder how she could tank in catacombs and she kills so fast. I'm also amazed when I play my dark wizard and one shot yellow mobs.
The way I play L2 with my dwarves I don't really worry about xp. I have goals. For instance when I was in the dgrade range I could make jewelry with stuff I got from Breka orcs, then break it into D crystals.
Actually I do the same with C grade but not for crystals of course, I'm hunting for boots and gloves you don't find in luxury shop and some top d armors.
Yes it can be tedious, maybe it's the reason I took so many long breaks, but on the other hand I really enjoy playing dwarves. I think it's the recipes and mats hunting that hooked me :)

I've had many characters on 7 servers since OB and among them there are 4 dwarves (the others being mainly tanks).
I'm currently playing only 1 char: 1 WS (lvl 45 at the moment) just because the ally I belong to doesn't have a lot of WS (only 1 as a main in fact). I hope I reach 49 by the end of the Xmas holidays as lvl 49 is a very important step in a WS's life, the next being 58.

I started an arbalester on Luna since the day one, but my long career of playing dorfs on free servers made me to reroll my beloved WS <3
I play my dorfie coz my pesonality suits her well. I like doing wacky stuff, telling jokes, I love to be the entertainer, and for that a dorf is THE perfect choice. It's also satisfying to be one of the VERY few legit warsmiths on an bot infested server that Luna is :P
All the sad but true things that Nanashi wrote about dorfs in another thread don't apply to me as well, as I am lucky to have awesome clannies that support me with parties for exp as well as for pvp. And let me tell you, the feeling while reading all those <3 in allychat after restringing a few archers is totally priceless. You feel so .. **** useful! :D
I'm currently 77, and I love the feeling when standing over a dead Sgrade dagger who only writes "lol?" before porting back to CH/town, exactly as Jacent wrote :), even killed an S80 dualdagger once 1 v 1 ^^
Also, the reason I play a dorfie is the subclass (like .. duh! :D). I am close to being Sgrade bow on my sub now, and i can't WAIT to hop into draconic gear, it looks fantastic on a female dorf, not to mention having a little runt running here and there, selling 4k crits for free ;)

I started it after I hit 40 on my first character to spoil enough stems for my first C grade staff..... Then I started a clan and decided it was too late to switch back.
She grew on me and now I'm somewhat high and love'en the aoe :D
In the last month or so I've gotten my WS to 75 and have subbed her a BD so when I play my SWS sub I can't have a cute combo!!! :)
Once you go dwarf you can never go back! :)

When I started in C1 I originally wanted to go with an archer.... with no money and always running out of mana the archer got to the grandios level of 14 before I gave up. Went for a speller of some sorts (my wife and I both play we were choosing the same chars at first) and the wizard kept running out of mana... cast ... sit ... cast ... sit ... cast ... too much sitting and not enough of doing anything else at all.
After these we decided to make different chars... I chose dwarf because he uses very little MP for doing things and can always hit and almost never die (except pvp). My wife choose a bishop as she wanted the best healer in the game. I grew to very much like the way dwarfs level (ie. while having my own personnal bishop to heal me!). Not built for the hard hitting but can AOE. Not built for fast killing but can spoil. I think the PvE part of dwarfs is good from NCsoft but what most people whine about is the PvP and there we are totally nerfed.
Now we are 77 FS and Cardi and still loving it ... well at least until the lag showed up. Only been able to grind one night in the last 3 weeks due to the bad lag.

I quite like my dwarfs too, they may get lvls slow, but it's always fun to play them.
I like that I can make my own shots whenever I please, i can craft and have loads and loads of HP. It's never easy to kill a dorf :).
Curently I am doing beast farm with my 60 spoiler and having one heck of a time there with yellow and pink mobs.
I started a dwarf because I couldn't and can't even now understand and deal with more than 5+ active skills on my char! I mean, I can buff, I can heal on my lvl 80 bish...but when it comes to pvp I'm confusing all my skills, buffs, etc...
Dorfs, on the other hand, have like 5 skills, 3 of them are stuns. So, basically, you just spam stun and 2 more skills all the time. Not much to think about....

Started my bounty hunter to help fund my toons. Glad I did because if it weren't for her my toons would all be poor s.
Though 77 levels later I'm struggling to find good money spots. I dearly miss Beast Farm/FoD spoils.

Yeah, actually that's one of the reasons why I play my maestro too - easy PvP :D and precisely the reason why i chose a phantom ranger on sub (aside from the fact that female dorfie looks fantastic in Draco outfit :)). I am not good at mashing keys :P
