View Full Version : A few questions about the Prophet.

Well, I've finally decided to go back with Lionna, and although I had been planning on going with a TK as my main, I've been thinking of going with a PP instead.

The way I see it, they seem to be one of those classes that are a bit underrated. I've actually even had a chance to mess around with a level 78 on an old friends account awhile back, and with that nice buff that they get at level 78 (I forget the name) and a set of spiffy duals, he could solo mobs much better than I would have expected.

The thing is, all I ever hear about when people speak of prophets is how weak and useless they are in pvp. Are they really THAT bad? I mean, they get a bunch of nice utility spells (sleep, root, mana burn, etc), tons of great buffs (which seem nice for the more independant minded), heavy armor masteries, and let's not forget about the battle heal, which although weak, can certainly keep you alive in a pinch.

So my main question: Why is it that a prophet seems to get a much harsher wrap than a SWS or TK does, for example? And I don't mean that in a buffing sense, but in a "which is more helpful in melee combat" sense. Is it because the basic stats of a fighter are higher, or maybe because they have better weapon masteries? I just can't figure it out. From what I can remember when playing my friend's pp, they can really tear stuff up if given the right setup. I couldn't believe the attack speed lol.

It seems to me, that if you took the plunge and decided to play a PP as your main, you'd have a pretty decent time later on if you were good at using everything they have at their disposal - At least, on par with a SWS or TK anyway.

Anyway, I was hoping maybe some of you veteran Prophet's could give me some advice, and maybe share some of the reasons you enjoy playing your PP; in both pve and pvp.

The sound of a battle prophet sounds pretty nice to me :).

i do enjoy it but we get a few usless skills at 79 an not get one at 80. if you are making a new toon i would suggest make wc it has more uses than we do. Until the dev team decides to give us something good. but in all honesty there are very few of us left.

Well, I had thought of a WC, but I'm just not a big Orc fan personally.

Also, the fact that there aren't many live prophets left just makes me want to play one even more hehe. Plus, I thought it'd be kind of neat to sub an SK with one.

I'm still on the fence about this though; it's pretty much down to TK or PP for me - I just want to make sure I pick the one I'll be most happy with in the end. It's a pretty tough choice if you don't have much experience with the game =/.

Prophet is the best buffer 1 to 1. PP gives the best buffs for any situation. The bad thing about him, is that he has no combat skills. Give him duals and he can kill "tons" of mobs.
Other characters, have their own combat skills plus the buffs of a Prophet or Wc or SE. Prophets have only their own buffs, and some dances or songs.
Prophets arent for pvp. They help other ppl to pvp. That;s why we are supporters.
Levitra said that the 79 skills are crap. I agree. We could get better skills in these lvls.

Senvilan, you have to realise that in order to solo, you have to kill fast (otherwse respawning mobs will overwhelm you). A fighter or mage does that well due to: a) buffs, b) stats and c) skills. A buffer may have a) but not b) and c).
As for PvP, support characters have limited usage. They have no effect if they try to DD against other players. Not only that, but many of their skills are often resisted. Heavy armor can be a problem in PvP since it will make you cast slow and limit your mana pool. Thus, buffers are easy targets on PvP (better stay behind on mass PvP and try to root/mana burn some opponent).

I've been thinking about this long and hard, and even though I've heard nothing but bad things about them, I've decided to stick with my prophet. I had enough time playing one at the high levels to know that they pve quite well, at least in my opinion.

As for the being overwhelmed thing, I don't think that will really be a problem if you play smart. The same goes for pvp. I understand I'm not strong enough to take on a full-fledged melee, but I still plan on causing some havoc in other ways, even if it's only by mana burning, rooting, etc.

It just seems like a really interesting class that's having some tough times. I'm used to playing classes just like that, and in all honestly, I've always liked the challenge.

So with that said, thanks for all the advice everyone, I truly appreciate it, but this is something I'll just have to learn the hardway :).

My motto goes, Stick with whatever makes your day. If you like being a Prophet, then Prophet would be. The class/race your chose to play is of great importance for the simplest reason, if you don't like it you will never make it.

pp has always had tuff times. At 56 it became apparent that the WC was the buffer of choice for NC and I too took the mentallity that your taking now. "I'll get screwed for now but they will make up for it later"... well 3 years and 23 levels and im still waiting.
PP is always going to get screwed due to the fact that so many people have them as buff slaves.

Its sad that it started out as the WC being the mage type buffer and the pp as the healer type buffer. In prelude and c1 the two worked great together. They had buffs that the other couldn't provide and the pp healed well enough to be the healer in a 9 man group. Then C2 hit... the orc got more buffs that replaced the pp from group. The pp could no longer heal a group and was pushed to the side to be dragged behind a archer as a oop slave. Where the orc just keep getting more and more and became the better class and buffer.

And yes I'm stubborn as hell, I'm still waiting for something good :`(

Oh my lol. You get advanced lvls of root, not sleep. No matter how they unnerf it you wont be able to sleep ppl with ur skill from lvl 35.

Do us all a favor and stop playing that prophet.

its ok unlesss you get lucky and your + OE to root is successful you wont be able to sleep or root ^_^ before the long [censored] change to sleep even with the low level sleep you could land it enough to save your life

but your response is exactly what the 5 of us remaining pp players are complaining about. Our class has been turned into nothing more than a slaves that has no actiave role in the game... please for the love of god give us something before the classs is nothing more than a toon boxed all over the map. The mana drain is a nice start. It allows us to do more than just sit on our butts and regen. But something more would be nice. Screw the olyimpad, you pretty much took everyone in the game and gave them 4 of our skills to fight us with... just give us something to group and play with... please
