Hey everyone I recently hit 20 on my human fighter and I am standing at the cross roads. I have decided (kinda) that I want to have a DA I like the playstyle. Anyways my question would be is getting the knight UP to the level required to change into a DA a complete nightmare? If so I am just going to forget it and go warrior down to gladiator. All imput is welcome ^_^.

EDIT: Also any gear ideas and weapon combinations are welcome as well as I have no idea what to use. I.E. sword n shield or duals etc etc. Many thanks!

D grade is still totally flexible as to armor and weapon and it will be fast no matter what you wear or what path you choose. DA is good class, but it will get a slower in leveling 40+. You can use your cat to help DD, but really tanks have an advantage in being very tough so they can AOE a lot of areas by themselves. Invest in a pole imo. You can AOE in D grade too, get a pole with your weapon coupons, noob buffs, and check out a catacomb. You can get top common armor and jewels in Giran shops, Half Plate for D grade and Full Plate for C grade. Besides a pole, in C grade up you will want a one-handed sword with focus, or even a dagger with focus (daggers are best for damage output because daggers have the highest base crit rate, but they will use shots faster). Duals don't get good focus SA so I don't recommend them for leveling. Two handed weapons can output more damage, but you have shield masteries and shield stun so if not poling you will want to have a shield and one hand sword or dagger. Tanks can take a lot more damage if they have a shield on.

And we have got just 1 chaosbr1ng3r on forums asking to tell him everything about every class as he is too lazy to read or remember.
He is also pathetic and we cry when we see any of his posts.

I absolutely love my paladin although he's only level 41. I expected that his kill speed would be horrible but I find the way that he deals with mobs to be absolutely amazing. I haven't taken him into the catacombs or cruma tower like I did my tyrant at that level because he's running manors for me right now. When I team my paladin with a a wolf with top gear the end result is lights out killing. I have a berserker who runs with a kook and uses a +6 set of pl and a +5 berkerker blade with focus and I don't think that even he kills as quickly or as efficiently as my Paladin/wolf combo who is in common armor using a sls that is unechanted and with no special ability added on.

The DA is considered an offensive tank but I'll take my paladin wolf combo any day of the week over the DA and his dark panther. I have the ability to put potions on my wolf to heal him and increase his attack speed with potions as well. I do believe although I'm not sure as I've never had to that I can heal my wolf with my own spells as well. Needless to say I am one completely content Paladin and if I hadn't made a monk/tyrant first there is absolutely no doubt that I would have been happy with a Paladin as my main.

Paladins are far from pathetic in any sense of the word. I love paladins/phoenix knights.

THE main problem paladins (and any other tank for that matter) have is that its a frigging pain in the to level! If you thinking "slow and steady does the trick" when you're grinding ordinary/slow pace on any other toon a tank stands on the side of the road looking at you thinking "holy ! what an incredible speed!"
lol

Leveling from 20-40 was not a nightmare and I did the entire level range without the aid of kamas simply grinding. I leveled my knight with a +6 set of brig armor and a +7 elven long sword and I had no problems and probably no fatalities with my knight. I opted to use a wolf to increase the damage output and open up higher level monsters to my paladin and he was geared out with the best upgraded wolf armor and weapons as well.

You may like the playstyle of the DA but I will advise you to make a Paladin regardless. I had my Tyrant team with a DA from my clan and a WC to do the 46 Kama and a simple flaw of the DA/Panther combo is the inability of the DA to heal his panther. The Panther simply sat there eating the mobs aoe while the DA sat helplessly unable to do anything to keep him alive throughout the fight. I don't know anything about how much hp the DA's panther has or the amount of damage that the panther puts out or can take because I don't have one but I absolutely love what my wolf brings to the table. His low hp and defense pre-greatwolf aren't an issue because I can taunt and keep mobs off of him allowing him to go crazy. I've been inside the catas with my dwarves and their wolf so I know he'll be a very vital part of my push in there once I really start leveling and his life expectancy will not suffer. I just advise you not to sell the Paladin short because everyone tells you that the DA is the offensive geared tank because you may find that a Paladin and wolf combo will suprise you.

ofc i am reffering to leveling...many chars are great in OLY-sieges when they are <<made up>>...but it makes huge difference when exping for example a destroyer-than a paladin (i dont wanna here silly comments like <<dont compare dd with tank>>i compare the funny with the non funny)i can say the same for my prophet....but my pala is boring like hell

edit*** i love them too...when THEY tank in raids for me :P

When hunting with a wolf I don't seem to have any issue with leveling speed? It was my hope that the wolf/great wolf and the additional damage they bring to the table would be a mitigating factor for the lack of offensive capabilities of the Paladin? I know my Paladin isn't going to be able to compete damage wise with my Tyrant with his ogre totem and fury fist but I was figuring that my wolf would pick up some of the slack as my Tyrant is forced to run with an improved buffalo to keep him alive and reduce downtime in the catas.

Dominus. I dont take considerations to a great wolf as they are not built into the paladin like a cat for a warlock or a panther for a DA. Think bare metal.
Yes grabbing an outside help, like a great wolf, will mitigate grinding speed alot for a Paladin, eventhough the wolf sucks some of the attained xp, in the long run it ends up in the paladins favor. I was simply making my statement on a "use only whats built in per default" kind of approach

Chaos. Naw i wont tell you not to compare destro vs tank or something like that. Like you i compare entertainment value between classes, Whats fun > whats not fun. We're just having different opinions on whats fun :)

Both are long and tedius, but pretty strong in the end. A lot of people.. well at least on these forums, cry about their stunning and silencing skills at 77+. The paladin with a wolf far outbeats a dark avenger and panther until 76+ where the panther just exceeds the wolf with elemental damage/defense enchancement and the skills (lethal, dark surrender, stealth, and "cancel" :D) and enchancement from +'ing it at least +5 or more. And technically wolves stop growing at bursts after they get their top armor which is like top A armor and weapon and then you have summons that get S grade strength with elemental attributes from your personal equipment.

But at 83 a pheonix knight gets a pheonix summon which is pretty strong so its controversal at end game. More dependant on 40% skill 60% equipment well generally this game itself if more dependant on equipment than skill. Proof? Heroes.
