just wondering, what happened to the server Kain? and if i was to re-download the game where would my characters have been migrated to?

I actually have no idea about where or if your character would be saved,
but if u havent played since 2005 then you can remake any character you lost in a day of playing

If your characters have not been deleted due to inactivity, the great server that was once Kain is now Chronos.
Just a quick update, in 2008 Kain was merged with Lionna to form Aria, Aria was then merged in 2010 with all North American servers to become Chronos.
Last month, this server that has been on US central time since possibly the start of the game was voted to start at -2 GMT instead of -6 GMT. As of last week, that time was implemented.
So check Chorons for your toon and keep in mind are basically on Brazilian or European time now.
