About the critical errors, it might have something to do with overloaded RAM/memory.
I use to get it sometimes when SoE'ing, in an area with many players and stuff like that. In those cases the game uses a lot of memory and also the processor is heatening up.

This issue has nothing to do with any system problems, its purely a GG issue.

Theres no such a thing as overloaded RAM with 2Gigs in nowadays systems..

ive done short of Replacing my Graphics card in my pc, Im now in Emails with Tech Suport about this issue because Im not gettin any answeres here, Im not gettin any answers there either but at least Im gettin a bit further.

i'm using a 32bit XP system, L2 doesn't start here because of GG, but it does after i dissable all that protects my system.....no way i'm gonna play with unprotected system.. i just got a trial for this week, time almost expired... really good to get new players in L2 this way =/
they make a trial, but on the same time they come with a F****D up GG..... guess i'm just gonna stick with a free game (Silkroad that also runs with GG but without any problems)
Soo..... a free game runs better then a game with monthly fees..... ?? right..
I really feel bad for the paying players, really bad service.... there goes your money...

(already contacted ncsoft through e-mails, but no help same as other people in this thread)
Hope they fix it soon for you guys... i was willing to start playing this game after the trial.. no way i'm gonna do that now..

uh..
thats weird.. I sort of assumed that everything using GG was bound to cause the same issue. So.. its just us poor smucks of L2 ?

Mistryl, you can avoid reading/answering this thread as much as you like, but you've sort of.. lost your face by now.
Last time was "sorry no update cause of the storm etc."
I wonder what other xcuse you will come up with this time to make up for NCS not giving a dam **** for STEALING the money of customer.

Yes, yes, we are talking STEALING.
As I said Vista is the only OS i can get legally. I was able to play before. THE SERVICE I M PAYING FOR HAS BEEN INTERRUPTED WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE.

Another question.. is your nose like 7 meters long by now?

I have a 32bit XP system using windows firewall behind a router using avg anti virus. And i have no issues playing.

Just a FYI to find the link between the can and can not play ones.

Splatter,
you've been repeating this mantra for days now.
Troubleshooting a system doesnt work like that.
The fact that works for you and not for lots of other ppl only shows NCS is doing nothing to make us aware of the progresses on this.
Post something USEFUL if you want to start troubleshooting.

Can you not see that? A poster above posted that they have a 32bit XP system and can not log in, while i have the same type of OS and i can.

It's just no one has taken up a correspondence to work out what programs are causing the issues.

Know that I feel simulair like you about this matter..
Only advice I can give you is this:

Deactivate in time so you will not get charged again on your CC. We will never get our money back as that is something we have to agree too. Apart from that waiting is the only other thing you can do.
Granted if NCsoft would like to keep a good relationship with those now unable to play they could indeed consider a refund but I doubt they will.

If anything with ranting you might get banned while you rightfully vent your frustration. Believe you me I even was at one time willing to consider hacking the legal software just to be able to play this game simple as I like the people I met ingame (the game itself is "so so" to me). However as a legit user I had to remind myself not to lower myself to a low-live-player/hacker who is only apt at surviving/playing this game with the help of an illegal 3rd computerprogram or altered client.

Situations like this remind me of the proverb:
Nice guys finish last.

That's easy splatter, its gameguard that's causing the issues. Every single one of the ones reporting problems are trying to run it.

I worked in Support for long enough that Im not expecting any type of refund man..
But, none the less, I want to make clear to NCSoft that:
- their support is good for monkeys
- saying "guys we dont know what happens, sorry for screwing this up" is better then saying "sorry there was a storm"
- recognizing that not only Vista users have the problem
- starting a SERIOUS discussion on it
If, in the process, they feel like banning me for expressing this, be my guest and immediately after move to China, cause they have the same tendencies to make things "disappear" when they become an inconvenience.

If they think this game is so important to me they really have no clue about business ethics.

Again its not about the money, its about the way to conduct a business.

There are different reasons people are in this thread. Some to vent. Some to try and figure out the common sets of hardware/software so that NCSoft can try and fix it. Some are here to figure out what they can do to just PLAY. Whether that means disabling, deleting or replacing software. All of these reasons are valid.

Don't hate on Splatter for trying to help with 2 out of the 3.

Why is it when people are having problems, they get ****** when others say, "I can still play so let's try to figure out where we are different"? Jesus, that's just basic troubleshooting. Why are you getting so ****** off at someone that is trying to figure out why his system works when others don't? Do you think he's just taunting you? Are you just so ****** off that all you want to hear is venting?

PS: I can play with no problems but I guess you don't want to hear that.

We are all ok on GG is bugged. OS isn't the problem.
Do u remember the bug with euro keyboards? so my question is : where are you from? Are you all from the same continent, same country?

what is the common point between all players who can't play? (not the OS, it's sure)

It's pretty easy really.

XP non-64 bit here with a non functioning Kaspersky AV. I played in the morning, GG was updated, I could no longer log into the game. Nothing changed but GG.

I removed Kaspersky, I could play.

I loaded Norton AV 2006, and I can play, but whenever norton downloads new updates automatically, I get a GG error and L2 shuts down.

So I hope at least, we're all in agreement that it's that POS GG that is screwed us all up.

Oh and I have 2 gigs of ram, if L2 needs more than that it can eat me.

Because we already knew from the onset what was wrong, no amount of "hey such and such Splatter can identify" helps us anything, heck, it can't and won't help NCSoft, since they already have that info.

Not if thats not enough for the person, but he went on and on, which simply makes things worse. He was told already why his system works and others do not, it simply adds to the frustration.

Disabling security, replacing OS and removing hardware are very poor reasons to make a computer game, we pay quite a lot of money to access every month, work.

Of course they are all valid, as would be chopping off your arm to play, valid is a very broad term...which btw would then include using "l2 clients" that run fine on all these systems. Hardly good, no?

This thread is continuing to degenerate into flaming, accusations, and inappropriate posts, so I am going to close the thread now.

This does not mean that we consider the issue itself closed. We are aware that the GameGuard update is causing a crash with some operating systems and programs, and we have escalated the issue. We apologize again for the inconvenience. I don't have any information on a fix or update to GameGuard, but the problem has not been ignored.

If you are experiencing this problem, please contact the Technical Support team if you haven't already for any additional troubleshooting tips. Thank you!
