Exclamation Update! Monthly Forum Previews

Hello all,

As many of you have noticed and called out, we obviously haven't posted a preview of events, promotions, changes, and updates planned for Lineage II for the month of October. Neutron replied to the September Preview thread to provide a brief explanation and apology for the delay, but under the circumstances this is a good opportunity for us to share with all of you an internal discussion we’ve been having recently about how these previews are generated and what purpose they’re intended to serve. First, let’s get some background on these posts.

Typically released just prior to the start of each month, these previews have become a staple of relatively short-hand insight into our production calendar for the coming month, offering the community a quick glimpse at relevant items on the agenda to help you plan accordingly as much as we can. The majority of the info for these previews is gathered and compiled by Lineage II Producer, Neutron; and after a quick exchange between the two of us to refine the format and wording, he presents the info in a fresh News & Announcements forum thread just as we’re heading into a new month.

In his reply on October 5, Neutron stated that the issue this month is that many of the items we’d traditionally lay out in the monthly preview are still in flux until the Dev Team returns from a holiday break. However, this situation highlights an ongoing issue we've experienced while creating these previews. Ultimately, changes to the game are determined by the developers. Even in cases where we’ve determined a schedule of events and promotions, we still have to hash out the details with HQ—such as item availability and costs, bonus server settings, and so on—before we can effectively inform the community. Oftentimes details aren’t completely finalized until the point at which the HQ Dev Team needs to deliver an updated game build to us for QA testing, usually within a week of those updates hitting live servers.

In recent months we’ve felt that the preview posts we’ve presented to the community lacked some key details, or supplied info that ended up being inaccurate by the time particular updates actually went live. In some cases they weren’t posted by the first of the month either. That being said, we know that a lot of players have come to expect to receive these forum previews every month, and we still see the value in sharing them.

What we want to change going forward is the timing of when these previews are released, in order to increase their effectiveness. Each month we run at least one major event or store promotion, not including other types of changes or updates made to the game. With that in mind, we’re going to start releasing monthly previews in the days leading up to the start of major events or promotions, to supply you with deeper insights into those updates—the Hungry Horse IV forum post that we released five days prior to the event provides an example of the type of info that could be included in our recurring previews.

This means that we’ll no longer be aiming to align these previews with the transition between months, but we anticipate that we’ll be releasing them at roughly the same rate.

Given that player expectations have been set for quite a while now on receiving a preview post at the beginning of each month, we understand that there will be an adjustment period to the altered cadence we're proposing. Just know that the goal for us in this endeavor is to deliver game content previews to you at the same relative frequency as we have been for some time now, while also ensuring that we’re doing a better job of supplying you with info that's more detailed and accurate—and useful!

Under this slightly revised plan, you can expect to see a new preview arrive in the coming days to detail the next major event on the schedule. Thank you for bearing with us while we've been working out this updated preview strategy. We sincerely hope you find it to be a step in the right direction—stay tuned!

Yours,

The Lineage II Team

Yay! This is the kind of communication we like to see (or at least it's what I like to see). People like me have monkey brains and get too latched onto prior forum-post policies like it's dogma. Of course this is all dynamic and there will be unforeseen changes, and all we need is regular reassurance that we haven't been forgotten. I know it's petty of me to whine all the time, but we're just looking for dialogue in a timely fashion.

Thanks for being upfront with us.

Thanks for finally communicating with us. I'd hardly use the last event as an example, though. You said carrot collection would be unchanged. You never mentioned that the carrot drop rate would be nerfed so that it would take an average of 1,000 mobs killed to obtain the 40 carrots for one, single, pouch. Let's hope you provide more accurate information in the future.

Hello, with this I consider that they have opened constructive disbelievers and have listened to the concern of all the people for the l2, it is good to know that and hope that they can give a better handling and dynamism to the game to generate a balance, an example of inequality is that the jewells like (topas-ruby etc) can be obtained with adena and here for more that is payd you will never be able to have lvl 5 or lvl 6, I hope you can really fix that and many more things so that the whole community of l2 grow, thanks for the information and efforts to improve Lineage 2

Exactly, I've learned here that if I set my standards at the bare minimum, NC never disappoints me.

Tanks seems to become more tankish with Salvation. Why this is bad I am curious?

It can be bad for the people which used to have and play offensive tank builds.

Honestly, I do like when a tank can do good damage, but I am OK and with being just a tank.

@conguero GJ with this one, this is the type of information we expect, whether is bad or good, we'd rather have some clear expectation for our communication than plain silence.

As requested in the September preview thread and now here, if we're in to have a very dull october, (nothing has been announced yet and it's already mid month), that's fine, just please consider extending the weekend XP rates for the remainder of the month, it's only 2 more weekends than what was originally planned so it's not that much or put these settings in the next event if there is to be one this month.

Thanks

I don't understand what else you guys want for a preview. The carrot event is on until October 18th. Then usually there is a 1 week break on events so why not just expect a preview for near November? What more do you want from October??

This is easy, you don't need the update, just compare your L2 store donations to whoever you think your going to be "better" than. This will save you the ever out of reach step of having to actually take Aden.

Regardless, your sophomoric need to be recognized for you donations by the community probably belongs in a different thread like "Chronos". We are discussing more macro level topics, pertaining to L2 and the community/dev team involvement as a whole here.
