The end or the beginning

Veansa stood looking down over her forces, one thousand Blade Dancers, all lined up in formation, all ready to do battle, all ready to die. Behind her over ten thousand other Dark Elf’s stood in formation, each with their respected class, and leader at the helm. This was the day of the final stand, the day of reckoning. Rumors had been flowing in from the south for weeks, whispers of a Human, Elf, and Dwarf alliance with all their warriors converging on one place, the Dark Elf home. Five days ago they had been spotted passing Gludio into the Neutral Zone, breaking the treaty of non-aggression. It was war. Thousands of campfires light the night like stars on the ground. She breathed in, and sighed heavily.

“How can there be so many” she wondered aloud.

“Our rangers report that there are as many of seventy thousand of them, over half of them wizards, everyone seems to be a **** wizard these days” said a voice behind her.

Veansa looked over her shoulder to see her lover Bregeth, his stark white hair was spiked back, giving his face a slightly stretched look. His slim figure though, was completely miss leading. Veansa knew just how dangerous he could be, all he needed was a bow, and anyone within sight of him, was a target. She glanced back towards the army of invaders that were disgracing the ground she had grown on, her deep blue eyes taking in every detail that was possible, especially noting the human mages that were praying, noting them as her first targets in the days to follow.

A slight breeze over her shoulder was the only indication that Bregeth had fired an arrow, but her keen eyes were able to follow its trajectory easily. A bush only 200 yards from their position was suddenly burst open as the arrow tore through it, and the Elven archer hidden inside of it.

“I obviously don’t see everything” she said outloud

“Oh my love, but I do” Bregeth replied, and turned to go back to the temple to praise Shilien for his latest kill.

“Indeed” Veansa thought….

“Indeed”

Chapter 2.

“They are preparing to assault us.”

Veansa looked at her 2nd in command, a young and beautiful female dark elf, her hair long and silky, fell behind her shoulders, but it wasn’t what drew attention to her. Her eyes, unlike most Dark elves, were dark red.

“I assumed as much, Shaii” she replied.

Shaii gave Veansa one of her rare smiles, and turned away drawing her dagger as she went out of the room.

“My eyes wont be the only thing red by the end of the night”, she said as she departed.

Veansa smiled and turned away, staring down at the massing forces, each individual race separating.

“Could this be a weakness worth exploiting?” She wondered around.

Every Dark Elf in her command would fight for her and their brethren to the last, but would any human bother to stop and save an elf?

She turned her back on the window once more and walked down the hidden path to the main hall in the City, where all of the forces were massing. She looked down, seeing the deadly spell howlers taking defensive positions near one entrance, while the healers set themselves up behind them, ready to heal and resurrect at a moments notice. She herself had to look hard to see the archers and daggers, so well hidden in the ceiling that no human or orc would ever be able to spot them with their pitiful vision. Her own Blade Dancers were mixed among the groups, the dance of Shilien in their hearts. The Knights were at the ready, having already formed their defensive V at the beginning of the tunnel, ready to give ground to the invaders only to draw them into the traps of magic and arrows, backed by the ferocious claws of the undead brought forth by the Summoners.

“Yes” she said out loud “Everything is ready”

And the sound of feet above them became thunderous.
