[ QUOTE ]
I've not had any issues running Vent under Vista 32-bit so far. As for running L2 under XP Pro 64-bit, I always have to set the CPU Affinity to CPU0 or I get the Negative Delta message right away [/ QUOTE ] I continually got that negative delta message on my XP pro 64 machine. I bought it as new with that OS installed. This was about a year ago and drivers for XP 64 were minimal. I contacted L2 support and they said there's no intention to support 64bit. I didn't want to give up L2 so I had the machine wound back to XP 32 Pro. This is an interesting and useful thread. I have the XP 64 Pro cd in front of me begging to get back on and let me use my dual core 4800+ to its full potential. Can someone out there try L2.exe from within 64 bit vista on a totally new install machine (or hard drive).

Windows xp x64 works wonderfully.... [/ QUOTE ] Except of course that some software and hardware doesn't support 64 bit and you can't use 32 bit. Heck, its a nightmare if you have printers from even HP or Canon that are the smaller models where they didn't bother making 64 bit drivers for the printer :/

Printers, scanners, i've a few dozen of them, They all work wonderfully under xp x64, i've yet to run into a SINGLE problem with x64, aside from Creative labs (POS company in the first place) or Older, OLD hardware or software which has a hard time running under xp 32bit in the first place, or has lost support for ages now.

I can inform that Lineage 2 is working great on Vista RC1 32-bit.
It haven't noticed any mentionable difference running L2 on XP or in Vista.

Vista RC1 appears to be allowing gameguard to fuction more "easily" but you still need admin rights to allow it.

I would like to see you getting the 2xxx hp laserjet printers and Cannon IRxxx series to work under XP 64. They don't have 64 Bit drivers.

Perhaps they removed it.

As for Cross-Platform:
Only think NCSoft would have to do in this matter would be just to delete this GameGuard crap (which really doesnt stop anyone from botting as we all know) WineX did the job Perfectly for Linux - a few months and they would have tweaked it so that we would be able to run L2 on any Linux OS, but then GG came in which actually busted any attempts for players to run L2 on Linux. Same story now about the new Intel Macs. Codeweavers developed something based on WineX - now you are able to run virtually any Game and Windows application directly under MacOS without having to dual-boot into Windows or use a Virtual Machine. NC would say Mac market is small. Maybe. But the Macs make it up with superb performance and now after they use Intel and you are able tu run virtually any Windows application on a Mac that market will grow. Much people will start switching to Mac's as it is now smooth and easy to do so. No more problems with tools, programs you had on Windows and cant run them on a Mac... Now there is only one excuse why you shouldnt buy a Mac: The Price. But come on. They charge big - oh yes. But you get the highest quality stuff you can get. Every Hardware component has been designed to work with each other. That gives a PERFORMANCE (Caps intended here) Only thing which blocks me from scrapping the Windows partition on my Intel Mac is L2. Remove Gameguard - all problems will be solved... |

imo, i hate mac, i have no reason to use a mac, and not many other people do to.. as mac has just the same issues as any windows based pc has, PLUS more cons then pros.

Not really...
I never had any 'issue' with the mac other than not being able to run windows apps which i needed but i have found replacements for them. The Mac has no viruses, it doesnt crash, hang, freeze etc. Now with Crossover and the ability to run virtually any windows program directly under MacOS there is even more reason to format the windows partition. Some games still wont run - like L2 but it's a problem on the side of the game dev's (like L2 having gameguard) and not on the Mac or Crossover side. Hardware wise it's perfect even if you run Windows on because the hardware is designed to work together - every part has been designed to be 100% compatible with the other parts of the hardware - not like with PC's where hundreds of companies do parts keeping to given guidelines but still making their own innovations which raise problems here and there... |

Talrond, you full of crap, just as i would be if i said all my machines NEVER crash, never have viruses or freeze or hang.
I know plenty of Mac users, don't get me wrong, the mac has a lack of issues due to the fact that the number of people useing mac vs pc is so significant, that no one really targets the mac (up till about one year ago). there are viruses, the sucker crashes, it hangs and complains constantly. You pay 3x more for your mac in comparison to identical machine being a PC. And quit buying Dells and Compaqs and your HPs and gateways, your just looking for problems. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5AEaEOZ1rc And to top it off, this guy is a hardcore mac/apple user, he has used nearly every mac you could have ever touched since they came out. http://www.happynowhere.net/mac_parody.php Now i'm not in any way trying to be offensive or rude, but your living in a mac dream world, Congrats on your current mac, and that your having no issues thus far, but your one of the lotto winners on the mac arena.

i forgot to mention that a mac is, every day, becoming more of a PC... specially the move from the old cpu's to the x86 setup currently on more recent macs...
![]() But alas, elrohir, tiss true, we are not what we use. And tiss Vista thread. Let it be.
