Noob Question - Death Penalty?

Death Penalty.

I was with Lineage II two years ago and the death penalty consisted of:
1 - possibly dropping an item
2 - loss of XP
3 - return to nearest town

I'm at level 19 going on to level 20 and I died twice in the Elven Fortress... now I have a buff icon "Death Penalty - Level 1". It's been on my screen for a couple of hours and isn't going away like my other buffs.

What's going on? What are the new rules for dying? How have they changed them? I still see the XP loss. I still go back to the town. What is the "Death Penalty" icon? Should I be doing something to get rid of it?

well, unless you found out earlier, the death penalty is when you actualy get your battle stats lowered from dying, it stupid i know but still. you can get rid of it by using a "remove death penalty" scroll that are bought from the magic shop.

ok. go to grocery/magic shop and buy a no grade recovery scroll. depending on the level of death penalty you will have buy more. (ie. death penelty level 2 means you must buy 2 recovery scrolls.) happy hunting.

The death penalty debuff is instead of dropping items when you die (if you are white or red with 5 or less pks).

Thx. It doesn't happen everytime you die, does it? Its seems random... sort of like the previous weapon drop.

this is so lame!!! death penalty lvl 8 on my bot killer. would cost me nearly 1 mill adena if i ever wanted to actually lvl this char again.

If you really are efficient at killing bots with this character, I'll wager that a lot of the honest players will gladly give you scrolls to keep your botkilling spree on track.

level 8, and only cost 1 mil? that's hardly a problem.
at a certain level, there is also supposed to be something to do with the black judge npc who can remove them.
i'm not sure on requirements, or cost of such removal though.

If you have Karma scrolls don't work, so you have to go to the Black Judge to remove the death penalty, it has nothing to do with levels.

oh, for some reason i thought he only removed a/s...
i've never really had karma on any of my characters... well except for maybe a few hundred from killing a pet...

why level 8 on the killer... unless of course you died to clear the karma as opposed to working it off.
