Default A Newb in Need

Hiya. Seems these posts are common, but I'm new to Hindemith and L2. Just wanted to say hi to everyone and wanted to drop a few "newb" questions at you all.

What is the best way to go about finding a good clan to join?
What's the best way to jump into the community and joining groups?

Heh, guess those are kinda the same question. Anyway, thank you all in advance. ^^

hey, welcome to L2

mostly just shouting around and making friends should help solve both questions, as a clan should be there to group with you
there's also the party room thingy in the command screen, but not many people use it

so yeah, just go into a town and shout "lvl w/e class LFC"

A newb in need is a newb indeed.....

if you ask me, the best way, is just to solo till you hit dion or so, then try and hang with different peeps....

then if you play slowly...hang with peeps so you have friends..most people like having friends... or if you are really serious....level till you hit a grade..then start making clan type friends.

but if you are a seasoned player looking for reassurance..then quit being a ****.... and just make some friends

Thanks for the advice Gharik. It seems that's the most straight forward way to get informed about clans around.

Uh.....Kandlestik...I appreciate the advice. I realize I should make friends and get to know others, it was I was curious what the best process of meeting those people and starting the process was. I'm guess raid groups would be good. I can assure you I'm no "****", and I apprecite the simple advice, but unlike some other MMORPGs I've played, the social system for L2 seems to highly benefit those with friends/clan and make it somewhat hard to enter that world for those that don't.

Anyway, any other advice for a good way to get into the social structure of L2?

This game is all about your clan and your alliance and the friends/enemies you, your clan and your alliance have...

But it's not really going to condition you until you are like... mmm... level 52+? Unless you join the wrong clan with the wrong friends/enemies. Then you have a problem.

The only thing that can make hard for you to enter the social life are the players themselves. And Hindemithians, if nothing else, are nice to newbies (yes, there are [Censored], like everywhere, but it's not the general actitude unless you picked up a very very wrong tag).

So... don't rush it. At low level you can party anyone, while partying you'll chat with people and get to know about clans and allies. And with the people you know, the ones you enjoyed and the ones you disliked, plus all the things they've probably explained you... You will be able to chose a clan and don't be too wrong in your choosing.

My only recommendation apart from not being in a hurry, is: don't trust anyone too hateful towards others.

There is no such thing as an absolutely good or absolutely bad clan. There isn't. Anyone who tries to sell that as the absolute truth is either a fool or has an agenda that hardly includes being helpful to you.
There are the right clans for you and the wrong clans for you. That's all there is to it.

So... yeah, enjoy your newbie clanless status to get to know people.

I'll second that. lol

Thanks a lot for the helpful advice Minako. One other question since I seem to be on a roll, would an academy be a good way to get to know a clan. From what I understand, an academy doesn't obligate you to stay in the clan as your removed post graduation and seems it'd be a good idea to get to know a clan if they're big enought to have one.

Hard to tell, but I would guess yes because it does put you in contact with other people and some of them will be experienced and willing to teach you stuff and answer your questions. Wich sounds better than having to scream your questions openly to the air hoping that at that moment there is someone near and he is willing/capable to answer.
Clannies can also explain you about accepted and unaccepted behaviours in the server and help in many other ways .

Only big issue I can think of is to be carefull with that clanīs status, if they are at war or not and, most importantly, if the enemies respects the academy toons. You donīt want to be harased for something you have nothing to do with.

And... since reputation is important in game... Maybe if you get an offer donīt say yes inmediatly and ask other people what they think? Just in case you just fall on one of the few very bad clans that the server have (reputation-wise).

If by any bad luck you land in a clan you dislike or get a an offer you like better you can always drop it. Penalisation for dropping clan is only 24h (real hours, not in-game hours or play time).

joining a academy is good for gear and advice. escpecially if it is a clan of high level toons. most people in there 70's could get a new toon from 1 to 40 in like 30-40 hours, but hate to do the 2nd class change quest. i think i'd rather punch myself in the neck than do it anymore. so they would be more than happy to do help you get to c grade.

however reputation is important, and one guy acting like a maniac or jerk or cheater makes everyone in that clan look bad to anyone who witnessess such activity.

and when you join a clan it has to be good for you, and good for the clan. if you are the only level 40 in a 70+ clan, you won't get parties, you are gonna hear people getting awesome stuff, and you are going to feel ignored. and the other clannies are gonna feel bad cause they can't help you unless they spend everynight just following you around, and they need to get subclass, or noblesse, or work on being a hero or whatever. will want to help, but just can't and will feel frustrated with you.

so academy is good. then you will need to find people who play at the same time and as often as you do. have the same temperment and views on cheating, pvping, grinding, and rerolling.

most clans that start off with c and d graders don't make it. but you should still try and find people you enjoy spending time with and working together with, and everything else will work out. if you arent socially comfortable with the game, you will find it difficult to withstand the mega-hours of grinding.
