Default Which Processor to use???

Ok guys, I am not super technilogically savy so im asking your intellectual opinion. I have 2 processors i could possibly use in my system the first one is an athlon 64 dual core 6000 running at 3.0ghz or i also have a phenom fx4 9650 at 2.3 ghz. My system is a gygabyte ma790fx - ds5 with 4gb kingston ddr2 667 ram with a sapphire radeon hd4850 toxic 512mb and a seagate 500gb sata hd. My question is which system will give me better results particularly in "giran" / mass pvp on l2? Thanks in advance for your timely knowledgable answers.

P.S. would i get better results adding an aftermarket cooling system and attempting to overclock one of the 2 processors? If so any suggestions on after market cooling units?

I'd go with the quad core. I don't think you'll need any OC'ing so no need for a cooling system, your rig should run everything near perfectly as is.

To maybe give you a better idea of how well the game will run for you, I'll give you a preview of my what my PC is running atm. (prepare to rofl)

P4 2.4ghz
512 MB RAM
Intel Integrated Graphics
37 GB HDD

I'm forced to use this PC after my gaming rig failed me. I got this PC free from a friend to simply get me by until I get a new one in about 2 weeks. It was built by DELL in '04. lmao.

If you're wondering how I possibly pull off even starting L2, well ... I run my game on lower detail with texture filter off and everything else graphically pleasing turned off. My NPC/PC limit is turned down to 1 notch. I play at windowed 1024*768 16bit resolution. Simply put, the game looks like -_-.

I run the game smoothly enough to function properly after a few minutes of hardcore loading lag. So don't worry, you'll be fine with either processor choice tbh, I'd just go with the quad core for a little more power in the case that you ever want to box a buffer. With 4 gigs of RAM and a quad core you'll be doing this with ease.

Hope this helped, and I hope my embarassing setup at least provided a few laughs

Good luck, and have fun in game!

I would go on dual core. I know what I'm talking about, because I've got processor intel core 2 quad q6600 (4x 2,4GHz). Yea, game runs really nice, I can make few boxes on full graphics (including real water/shadow effects), but still L2's problem is that it runs on only one of your cores. So on this place your 3GHz from dual core > 2,3GHz from quad core. Also quad core processors get warm really faster than dual core processors. It's really sad.

Default Re: Which Processor to use???

I recommend at least this system to play L2 in high definition without any losses and lag problems when many mobs appear or sieges:

CPU: Intel quad core 6600 2.4Ghz
RAM: at least 2GB or 4GB at 1666Mhz
Graphic card: XFX Nvidia 9600GTX 512MB or better!

With this kinda system or better you are able to run L2 smoothly without any problems. To cool down you processor i would advice a Thermaltake MaxOrb. I have one and it cools my Processor "INTEL CORE i7 965 EXTREME EDITION 3.2GHZ" to 28Cº in idle mode and working mode to maximum 40Cº on 2000rpm 24dBa which is very good.

The minimum system for run Lineage II with high definition but some light problems sometimes here and there like lag in big sieges or many mobs is recommended for users with no big budget:

CPU: Intel P4 3.4Ghz
RAM: 2x 1GB RAM 667Ghz
Graphic Card: Nvidia 6600GT 256MB

All systems which are below that minimum system, will have for sure big problems running L2 or many erros which closes the game. Sure, you always can run L2 in "low detail mode" but...who wants that? Its also very annoiying to play like that.
