Default Has the community of this game always been like this?

I'm new to playing this game, having only watched my cousin play this game on a few occasions quite a few years ago. Now the first thing I notice is that every 3 out of 4 players that I come across speak very little English, or if any at all. This makes communication between myself and others quite hard. Now I know the server I play on, Bartz, isn't country/region specific, but how is it possible that there are more non-English speakers than English speakers? Is it the influx of new players or has it always been like this?

Well, the best idea would probably be is joining an English-speaking clan and gathering such people around you. I'm also pretty much annoyed by that as well, but what can you do... Anyways, there're couple of topics about this as well.

It started with the free to play thing, most likely.
The game is a world wide game, and NCSoft has encouraged non-english speaker players to play the game among the years. There are a lot of posts with proofs of what Im saying, I just couldn't find them.
It's just how it is, it's annoying as ** but there's nothing we can do about it

I found this one for now. I tried googling, but apparently when you try to open these topics it says you don't have the rights to check, so I guess they're deleted.
But there was a pretty big topic in Suggestions section as well. It was however about Spanish-speaking players, where the topic owner has suggested to make a server specifically to these Spanish-speaking countries, so we can understand each other on the rest of servers. It ended up in some weird arguing and flaming, where some Spanish people suggested that the rest of the world should learn speaking Spanish instead, because the schools there are pretty bad and they don't support much of foreign languages.
Then a few pages of racism, a bit of flame war and the usual stuff.

Well, don't expect anything to happen about it.

Edit: Found the link: http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=220628
The rest of popular topics seem to be deleted.

Since Open Beta, L2 has always found a following with Europeans and South Americans, not to mention Asians from China, Southeast Asia, etc.

That.
And again, it's a world wide game, and over the years, they have encouraged people from all over the globe to play the game.

Because the world has more non English speaking countries, hence people, than English speaking.

Really not hard.

I don't think that's exactly true:

Admittedly, this is just a random list, but most I found seem to agree for the most part:

Total Speakers
1. Chinese (1.5 billion)
2. English (1+ billion)
3. Spanish (500 million)
4. Hindustani (460 million)
5. Arabic (452 million)
6. Russian (278 million)
7. French (265 million)
8. Portuguese (215 million)
9. Bengali (211 million)
10. German (150 million)
11. Japanese (130 million)

Languages spoken in the most countries
1. English
2. French
3. Arabic
4. Spanish
5. Russian
6. German
7. Portuguese
8. Chinese

Well, in case he's referring to the game, then also consider we barely have if any Chinese players, then probably less and less Hindu and Arabic as well as other eastern countries.
But chances are it's a completely pointless discussion.

I have actually found that most of the people whose first language isn't English, are able to communicate fairly well in English, some very well. How many of the English speaking whiners can communicate in another language? Really, I'm surprised to see this topic.

you dont see many Chinese / Korean / Japanese here because they DO have thier own servers in thier native language.

Actualy anyone know if L2 went FTP over there?

it will be interesting to see if we get an influx of asians if they are still paying and the kids learn they can play L2 on the north american servers for free ....

not everyone is a poliglot!
you cant force someone to study and learn to communicate with you just becouse you cant or you dont want to study other language's!
the english speaking peaple are maybe 1 bil+ but there are also another 7bil+ on the planet earth
think about it ... after all the english language is by far the most easy one to learn and by far the most simple one so its not a big deal if u know english u know ....
i learned english by playing L2 and im not a poliglot...
i know my english is by far not perfect but after all i just played a game

i hope u get what i mean ...and if my poor english wasnt understandble u can try to learn my 1330 old language but i can bet that you will need exacly that much time to learn it
Gl and try to be above this things we have our unike language's and if we know english this is just an extra for us

I will have to disagree with you there!.. and im a native english speaker!!

english is such a mish mash of languages and has way to many words that sound the same... and has exceptions for everything.

I mean what other language in the world would you be able to say "Please go polish the polish furniture" and have it make sense.

or that "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a gramericly correct sentence in english. (if you dont believe me google it)

Ah come on, it's still one of the easiest languages around to learn.
As for the anomalies... well, you'll find them in every language.

I'm not so sure about the English part anymore, as the topic wasn't about Brazilians, but the people who can't or are not willing to speak English in order to communicate with the rest of the players.
If you're considering the Brazilian population in the game like that, then you're just judging your fellow countrymen.
