I'm new to lineage 2, came around after it hit free to play. My computer is pretty high end. My specs are,
intel i5 2.8Ghz quad core 8gb DDR3 ram Geforce 450 GTS 1gb GDDR5 overclocked Windows 7 home. I keep lagging in L2 anytime I'm around water(and elsewhere), even on the lowest settings and I refuse to play it on anything but High, but I can't even play due to the massive lag. Is there anyway to fix this? I can play any other game just fine. |

Seriously a game this old need specs like that? Sounds like someone doesn't know how to optimize a game correctly. There's no way L2 should require that if done correctly when I can run Final Fantasy XIV on max really well and that wasn't even optimized correctly.
and as I said..it lags on low detail as well <.< |

I max graphics out with
Clean instal windows 7 AMD Phenom 720 BE - factory clocked IceQ 4+ t 4870 1GB- factory clocked 4gb ddr3 1333 ram SSD - 380mb/s + read speed 1920x1080 on 22" LCD Doesn't lag much at all, even in town with player congestion. This SSD has made a huge difference Last edited by kant24; 12-24-2011 at 01:22 AM. |

turn down water/shadows and maybe reflections too, those settings are very high resource demanding if you turn them on (pretty old unreal engine). without those, this game actually run smooth even on lower specs and multiple windows. btw, your pc isnt high end but it should run this game w/o problems.

Were talking about a game that used to have the Intel badge "Plays best on Pentium 4". The unreal engine was made before quad cores, advanced hyper threading, new instruction sets and architecture that didn't exist at the time.
The best thing you can do is install L2 on a SSD. Honestly, when you toss it on a nice SSD it's like playing an entirely new game. If you check HDD loads while running L2 you'll see how much **** actually has to load from the hardrive. |

apparently SSD storage is now required to play it without 1 minute lags when moving around.
or you may try 16 gig RAM, may also work once it caches the whole game |

in what universe is a 450 "high end"? It's a freakin entry level gaming card :S
Lineage 2 needs super fast hard drive(s) ... if you don't have them you will suffer. SSD is optimum, raided fast mech drives are a workable solution, but if you go with your 2gb 7.2k fragmented HD you 'll stutter in game. |

A silly question I have, since its not mentioned. Are you running 32 bit Windows 7, or 64 bit?
Most of the lag in L2 is caused by 2 things. The speed of your HDD, and the distance you are from Texas. Which part of the world are you living in? As your lag may be network related.

i7@3.6GHZ, 8 cores, 16 ram, ssd as system drive +L2 in it, 6970 ATI graphics (2 GB) here,
and it still crashes, lags or even freezes for long periods of time. And I never use shadows, just ground details... |

Disable Improved Shaders
Disable Shadows Set npc range to Narrow/Average Set Terrain range to Narrow/Average Potentially Launch the game in 4gb mode... An SSD will make a world of difference for stutters/lag.. because the game is always ALWAYS flushing and reloading textures and data ... every new character that pops into range loads and unload... and l2 also does full purges occasionally. Crashes I've experienced was due to lineage II biting the 32bit limited 2gb cap. There is a work around for that... walkthrough might be found on rochand...

every class.
obviously for a healer to be aware of their surroundings is always best... i don't know how many times i've been in a party with a healer that had a slow machine, resulting in deaths because they didn't see anyone even show up and kill anyone.. and their hotkeys aren't firing due to loading ****.

The only thing that helps is a ssd and a faster cpu, which is funny since the game is entirely single threaded. |

Indeed, it relies heavily on single instance cpu performance (raw brute cpu power)than on all nice and neat features cpus went through since 2004. My guess is overclocked p4 will give you better results compared to multithread multicore hyperthread ultrawhatever new cpu just because of frequency.
