NCsoft --> Pando Media Booster

Why, is NCsoft throwing me to update a file?

It states as follows

The launcher now requires pando media booster, which utilizes a limited amount of your upload bandwidth and pc resources to connect you to a peered network, which improves download speed and reliability for you and other end users using pando media booster.


It wont even let me start L2 without installing it.

This is correct, the Pando Media Booster was implemented today and it will greatly improve all Lineage II download speeds from the NCsoft launcher (including maintenances and entire game updates). We will announce more details about this tomorrow.

ah yes, the P2P of choice for all F2P producers everywhere. i always trash pando media every time i am forced to download something using it. and if i Must have it on, i make sure it never runs in the background. i do not trust anything that promises to improve my performance by leeching my bandwidth.

i trust you will also make its use optional....as you should.

You can implement third party rootkits but you cant temporarily turn off character creation/account creation? You can covertly implement third party rootkits but you can't solve server issues after 2 weeks? You can secretly and without our consent implement third party root kits in order to save on bandwidth costs but you still get to waste ncsoft's resources? We don't need 3 redundant community managers to tell us they don't know and that they are sorry and to wait a week! I can't believe you would brazenly lie to our faces like this. First you disable the launcher and force us into the plaync one. Now you are forcing more garbage onto us.

Still waiting on that compensation announcement for 2 weeks of trouble! Don't need updates on fansite kits and rootkit additions to help you save money when we cant even play!

More to my concern: Will it push files from our installer to other installers, or will it only receive from the host server?

Nice attempt at trolling BUT Pando Media Booster i not a rootkit in any form or fashion, heck you need it if you ever have used a Microsoft home server setup, plus you are complaining like a noob about different teams within one company, and you don't want the launcher people working on the game, very different beasts.

How would it speed things up if it only received from the original host server? (no idea, I'm seriously asking )

Does Pando in all cases act as P2P? Because I have a super-slow upload and I sure don't want a hidden application like this lagging my game (or even more so, sending data without my permission - I don't care what data it is).

Thanks for adding this piece of crap to yet another game on my PC, note guys, if your PC starts to run like trash, then gl you've become another victim to the awesome software called Pando Media Booster.

Innova is even worse than NCsoft, especialy when you run 64bits windows it seems to give problems... (The game wont even launch for me anymore)

Dear god when will they ever learn ....

League of Legends is one of the games that forces pando media booster on you when you install it but at least you can remove it after you do. When I had that crap on my system it was draining ALL my bandwidth everytime my adsl connection was on. Totally maxed out because it is a p2p thing that uploads your install to other users who are downloading.

Another fail in a neverending string of fails of ncsoft ...

Some info about pando media booster :

Any unsuspecting user that leaves PMB.exe running on their system is pretty much being forced to seed files to thousands of users ALL THE TIME (PMB.exe has been reported by users to use up to 80+% of their internet connection’s upload bandwidth.) For some users this could lead to their ISP throttling their connection and/or actually charging them extra $$$ for using more bandwidth than they knew they were using.

Free 2 play is going to get expensive for those with bandwidth limits

I have 24mb net connection... With this Pando thing, Im going to see lags in game and out of game?
Is there any way to disable this thing or what?
